Go into the router via the admin link (its in the manual)

Backup the settings.

Turn router off for 2 min (yes full two min not 1min 30)

At the back of the router should be a reset button (u might need a pin/toothpick or something)

Press the reset button down and keep it pressed down and turn the router back on, after 30 seconds let go of the reset button.

Let it load itself up fully.

Reboot ur own computer.

If u cannot connect go back into admin panal and upload the backup.

If you can connect let us know how it is.

Im guessing its nothing to do with security as he is having intermittent connection.

However the line part is important...is the broadband on the same line as ur home line, if so pick up the phone and check for static noise!

Also any other home phones/fax been added, if so do they have dsl splitters?

Only for G rated equiptment and it has to be a spicific chip...i forget which right now.

Worst fucker is the copy machines...they kill loads of signals!

I'm sure anything pushing alot of EMF would hose a wireless signal! Copy machines carry alot of electric horsepower underneath that vanilla exterior.

If your dropping out it would either be the card or the signal. Look for anything around it that might be causing interference.

As for the security stuff its usually included in the router. If you have the model # and brand of the router I could see what it offers.

Posibly if its a electrical rad...if ur talking water/pipes then it should not be affected.

However.... the grounding on rads can cause EMF to travel round the home/office.

But again i would imagen it would have affected u regardless of it being on or off!

lol u got a fear cage by the sounds then, have they finished?

You might need to have them come in and check the earthing.

When u say its been rewired, is it now external wiring? (aka is the wiring in the wall or outside the wall but in trunking)

Basically with wiring and pipes as Dymond mentioned you can gety EMF fields traveling round the house. Large amounts of EMF means signals will degrade.

One thing that might help is you can keep the wireless router AWAY from
the walls (away from electrical wallpoints and pipe work)!

If you're using a BT Home Hub, I think I know what your problem may be...

The BT Home Hub defaults to Channel 1, I found this was causing me to suffer repeated drop outs. After many, many phone calls to India, the BT help desk recommended that I try using one of the channels in the 9-11 range. I haven't had a problem since.

Open the Hub Manager, click the 'Advanced' link. It will ask you to sign in as an administrator - assuming nobody has changed them from the factory settings it should be admin for the name and admin for the password.

Select 'Configuration', change the 'Channel Selection' from Automatic to Manual, select which channel you want to use. Finally, click 'Apply' then log out of the hub manager.

Addition: I make no guarantees that this will work for you, all I know is this is the 'fix' I was given by the BT Technical helpdesk in India...
