Alright, here it is. I'm working on the website for one of my businesses and I need to create something similar to this...
www.hotelsa.cl
I don't want to change the design of that page, and we've just bought out an adventure tourism company. I want to use a different background image, but keep the same menu bar format.
I now own Flash, DW and Fireworks, but haven't figured out how to duplicate that bar just yet. Can anyone help me complete this task. I'm assuming that it's pretty simple for those of you who have studied design. I'm completely self taught, otherwise I probably wouldn't be asking here. I really don't want someone to just do it for me, I'd love to learn how it's done and I think it could make a great tutorial for the site. Thanks for helping out this nerd in training.... (Y)

Not real computer literate, but isn't that information contained in the "Page Source" data?
:dunno:

Not exactly...
I know how to get to the HTML code... What I need help with is the design of the Menu bar using fireworks (I assume)...
The buttons and all the images shoul be pretty easy to throw in once I know how to design the elliptical shape down the middle of the page. That's what's got me stumped here. I need to imitate that bar, insert an image into the elliptical shape and then cut it up and make my buttons.
Some one feel free to correct me if I'm going about this wrong...
Basically this page www.hotelsa.cl is a big picture. The buttons were cut out of the graphic that makes up the menu bar and made into "hotspots"... Again, someone who knows what the hell they're doing can feel free to correct me/cut me off here.
I need to figure out how to make that shape is all. I think I can probably handle it from there... I'll try to get some pics onto Photobucket so you can get an idea of what it is I'm trying to do here.... I'll edit when I've got that done. (Y)

I know flash fairly well and this page was not done in flash at all.
In fact I can tell from the source that this was done entirely in Fireworks and Dreamweaver.
<!-- Fireworks 4.0 Dreamweaver 4.0 target. Created Sat Mar 26 19:55:46 GMT-0400 (Hora est. del Pacífico SA) 2005-->
Neither of which are something I'm good with.
Dreamweaver just never seemed as user friendly as frontpage to me. It had a lot of cool stuff, but thats what made it so much more difficult to learn. So I stopped using it a long time ago.
And as far as fireworks...
There were too many bells and whistles which made it too overwhelming to try and learn on my own. Paint Shop was always good to me and much easier to learn.

From what I can see its a table with different images in each row/cell.
Basically they chopped up the image into lots of pieces. This lets them have little pieces of the overall image (ie the buttons) act as links. If you right-click on one of the links in the bar you'll see that there's the rectangular outline of the image when the context menu pops up.
The way the text goes red when you hover your mouse over it is just them swapping in a new image using javascript.
Make sense? If not let me know and I'll try to clarify.
Edit: btw I know nothing about FW, DW etc I'm afraid, so I can't tell you how to do it there :P
