Does anyone know how long legally you have to keep someone's property they left at your house after you have asked them to come and get it?
Also...anyone need a boat or a 76' ragtop VW bug? :hehe:

I rent a condo out and one time like 6 years ago someone left there stuff there. I was required to hold on to it for 30 days before I could do what I wanted with it. :dunno: if it only applies to tenant/landlord laws but I would think that is a reasonable amount of time.
*I can be there tonight to pick up the bug!

with abandoned vehicles, you gotta call the police and they'll issue a ticket to the owner, then if they don't pick it up in like 30 days it's yours

But what if the abandoned property is in your yard, not on the public street?

each state is different, what I said is the law in FL, but for all I know your state is completely different. but nonetheless, I would call the police and/or the DMV and ask, at the minimum you find out the law, but either way, you get the ball rolling
EDIT: searching google, I found this...

in rual WA state you can take someone elses land by building a fence or planting trees on the property, by a process of adverse possession. if the land owner says or does nothing about it, (i think for 7 years or so) the land legally changes hands...
edit: in order for it to become approved by a judge the possesser must have the land professionaly surveyed and pay property taxes during the 7 years

How do you expect her to plant a tree in a VW or put a fence up on it for that matter :eh:

all it takes is a welder to put the fence on. But to be honest if maija owns the land the car is sitting on she can have it removed for the price of the towing bill. Or she could just roll it down the street and let the police deal with it.

Or she could just drive it around illegally when she is drunk, crash it, run home and the person who owns it will get the blame :P
