Due to the fact that posted something completly false in this aritcle, I can't jump on board with any of their facts.
This must have been very poorly reasearched...
"Recent studies show that many commonly used plastics leach chemicals into the water—chemicals shown to be hormone disrupters and carcinogens."
The above statment is completely false, I sight my sources...

I value your input, and find your post quite informative. Thank you! Curious to know what it is I taste IN the water I've left sit behind then. I know that water bottles left in a car taste like the bottles they sit in. Any explanation for this amongst what you found? All I found in your links were myth-dispelling anti-water bottle-conspiracy "stuff". *grin*

Water left in a car (or anywhere) does end up tasting like ass. My assumption would be that the taste is from the bacteria that has been transfered to the water via your mouth.

I used to work for a UK water company laboratory and your post is true for us and some other countries, due to all the processes it goes through before getting to our homes, but I certainly wouldn't drink all countries water just because it was supplied :nope: :puke:

FDA on Bottled Water vs. Tap Water
http://www.fda.gov/FDAC/features/2002/402_h2o.html
excerpt:
"Some bottled water also comes from municipal sources--in other words--the tap. Municipal water is usually treated before it is bottled."
This site believed in the above information so much that they adopted it in its entirety.
http://pediatrics.about.com/cs/weeklyquestion/a/080702_ask.htm
excerpt:
"Generally, over the years, the FDA has adopted EPA standards for tap water as standards for bottled water," Kim says. As a result, standards for contaminants in tap water and bottled water are very similar."
EPA openly expresses concerns about water safety in bottled water.
http://www.waterandhealth.org/newsletter/new/summer-2002/bottled.html
excerpt:
"Occasional studies find that some bottled waters have elevated bacteria levels or chemical imbalances. In 1999, the environmental group Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) studied 103 brands of bottled water and determined that one-third failed to comply with industry-set standards."
This is the information that the above site referred you to.
http://www.nrdc.org/water/drinking/nbw.asp
excerpt:
"Even when bottled waters are covered by the FDA's rules, they are subject to less rigorous testing and purity standards than those which apply to city tap water (see chart below). For example, bottled water is required to be tested less frequently than city tap water for bacteria and chemical contaminants. In addition, bottled water rules allow for some contamination by E. coli or fecal coliform (which indicate possible contamination with fecal matter), contrary to tap water rules, which prohibit any confirmed contamination with these bacteria. Similarly, there are no requirements for bottled water to be disinfected or tested for parasites such as cryptosporidium or giardia, unlike the rules for big city tap water systems that use surface water sources. This leaves open the possibility that some bottled water may present a health threat to people with weakened immune systems, such as the frail elderly, some infants, transplant or cancer patients, or people with HIV/AIDS."
excerpt:
"In fact, about one-fourth of bottled water is actually bottled tap water, according to government and industry estimates (some estimates go as high as 40 percent). And FDA rules allow bottlers to call their product "spring water" even though it may be brought to the surface using a pumped well, and it may be treated with chemicals. But the actual source of water is not always made clear -- some bottled water marketing is misleading, implying the water comes from pristine sources when it does not."
Although you may not "give a shit" about what you give YOUR kid to drink, I find it hard NOT to care about what I give mine. Just because you don't care doesn't mean we don't "give a shit" about what we are putting into our bodies. There ARE "better things to worry about" after all.

I agree...thank you.
It is important to weigh the pros and cons of each situation individually.
Where one lives does make a huge difference in the quality of the tap water.
Filtration systems may be better options in some areas.
Water distillation processes can be practiced almost anywhere with the proper tools/kits.

Easy solution, drink rain water from a tank. Edit - given some of the pollution in the cities ya'all live, i probably wouldn't recommend that either.
I have a question though, i have to agree with tung, who gives a shit? Are you one of those people who reads every report people issue about shit giving you cancer too? Are you one of those sheltered people who are too busy worried about dying to live?

Just so you know...I give a shit.
I posted information that I thought might be of interest to others.
My first post contained links that were sent to me through an organization I am affiliated with.
Their efforts are towards saving our environment...or at the very least preserving it.
I do not have the time or energy to do the research myself, so I rely on them and their experts.
When confronted with accusations about my statements,
I felt that the responsible thing to do was to validate their findings,
or to determine that they were lying.
I posted my findings that include validation for both sides.
I do not live my life in fear of getting cancer as you suggest, however,
I find it in my best interests to concern myself with those things that affect my household.
I have no problem "living" my life...thank you very much.

Wow... I think a blanket condemnation of bottled water is a bit heavy handed don't you think? Seriously I understand about health concerns but there is so much more out there killing you that I doubt whats in the water is going to do it any faster. The problem with reading articles like this is that eventually you become so paranoid about everything around you that you do absolutely nothing but worry and spend your life trying not to to die when well.. thats the end result anyways...
Althought I do agree.. Dasani tastes like ass!

At no time have I said don't drink bottled water.
Where do you get your idea about blanket condemnation from?
SOME plastics contain harmful ingredients and should not be used for storing foods.
SOME companies bottle tap water.
Simple as that.
