We found out on September 21st that my mom has breast cancer. On October 16th she is going in for a mastectomy on her right breast and then she goes back a week later on the 23rd to have the left one removed also. She has lumps in both breasts which is rare so the doctors have told her in order to make sure they get it all she has to have a double mastectomy.
Can you all send thoughts and prayers her way in the next two weeks. I know she needs it and I do too.
Thanks,
Gretchen

I'm sorry to hear g$. My aunt has gone through the same thing (-ish) twice. the first time she beat the cancer, with nothing more than chemo. I believe. It came back 10 yrs. later and she then had a double mastectomy to make sure it wouldnt' come back. She'll get through it.

I know what you're going through Sis... my mom went through (and survived) lung cancer 2 years ago... and it's not an easy thing to see your mom suffer.
Mine and John's prayers are with you and your family, and you know you can always call us anytime you need to talk.
Love you (f)

Good luck, i shall give you my love. As i know what its like to lose someone to this shit cancer. And when its family its girzillion times worse, my brother when he was born we got told he had a desease, (which i cant spell) and when he was 3 years old he fell stopped breathing and went into hospital and the doctors lost his heart beat, as his heart stopped beating for 45seconds, we fort he had gone...but something happend and he came round..
the reason i say that, as i know how hard it is when something happens to one of your family who you love.
Best of wishes!

I'm guessing she had a double mastectomy and then they found that they didn't get it all, so they had to go back in and remove a little more.
Or she had 3 boobs, either one.

I am going with option 2 as with option 1 they remove the entire breast and if there is residual, that is an entirely different operation.....:)

Radical mastectomies remove way more flesh from up under the armpit though,
so there is always the possibility that hoos is correct. *imho*

We found out Friday she will need Chemotherapy and Radiation starting after Thanksgiving......

which means they didn't get all of it? Or that they removed as much as they could, and this chemo isn't going to do any damage to her body, other than kill the cancer and the normal minor side effects (sick feeling, loss of hair, etc)

actually when my mom had lung cancer 2 years ago... even though they get it all, they still normally do some chemo and radiation just in case there's any cancer cells in the tissue around where it was. It's a precaution to make sure they get it all so it doesn't come back.
Chemo and radiation both can affect ppl differently. My mom didn't lose her hair or anything, and she took this pill that kept her from getting sick from the chemo drugs..and it worked well. She has a PET scan every 6 months and so far it's still clear :) A healthy diet, and drinking green tea, water, fresh fruits n veggies etcc...helps during the whole ordeal as well.. Mom even had pure vitamin C injections, expensive but worth it imo. (look up the Alkaline diet and it's effect on cancer).
Take care Vix (f)

Hey you. Thanks for the insight, just wanted to make sure things were gone and nothings come back. i figured it was too quick for the latter so I was just curious as to why :)

Hang in there sweet lady.
I pray the light of God's protection surrounds your mother,
her family, her friends, and her loved ones during their time of need.
May the coming holiday season offer you the warmth you most require
to set the stage for true healing to begin in your lives,
and don't forget to take care of yourself.
God Bless you Vixen.
