Annoying Technical Problem

right, so i now have enough ram, i have broadband etc, things should download normal right? well here is the overly annoying problem........when im downloading big-ish things, they'll usually half download then freeze

would anybody be able to shed some light on why this is?

oh, the download stops working, like, last night i was downloading something that was 90 mb anyways, so i comes out and its frozen on 68 mb....so i thought, ok i'll leave it awhile, come back half an hour later, still frozen on 68 mb

everything always works fine though and small downloads are easy and work fine

are you using a download program or just the normal one you get with IE. I had the same problem a week back or so. turns out it was just DAP being gay. needless to say it is gone now :P

You could try a download manager like GetRight (http://getright.com/).

i would just say the server u are downloading from isnt hosting the whole file or its corrupted when downloading... maybe try a different site?

Well with that, if it does happen to stop and you need to restart your PC or whatever, that should keep downloading it.

It isn't "free" but I'm on something like day 300 of my 30 day trial without using any serials lol

It sounds like your download is being interrupted enough to where its not reconnecting with the server. A download manager can be a very handy tool because its a bit smarter about reconnecting or starting off from where you left off instead of from scratch if it stops. I have one thats built into Firefox..

But I prefer to choose what I use the manager for since it doesn't handle Rapidshare links very well so I don't sync it with Opera.

You can also go to dslreports.com (http://dslreports.com) and try running their tweak test.

It can be helpful for adjusting you system to get the maximum performance out of your broadband connection. There are also some other tests there that can help determine if there is a problem with your broadband connection as well as a full forum where you may find posts from people with similar problems using the same internet provider (and if your lucky a cure to that problem).

They are pretty good about explainging how to fix things as well.
