Ok so i have got my new mobo and processor. My power supply has just arrived. Ive put it all together now and it runs. Turns on and lets me go into BIOS.
BUT it gets to the screen saying that windows has been shut down wrongly before blahblahblah what do you want to do??
has the list of Normal Last known etc.
well no matter what i do here it will go straight back to the start up screen.
have i done something wrong or is it just being a gay piece of crap??

Is this a fresh install of windows? If not, I've run into this problem before...
Win XP (maybe others) will not let you run an old install with major changes to your hardware. You may need to re-install windows.
Don't take my word for it though, seek the advice of someone who is more of a professional in the field and who is patient enough to walk you through everything before you format and re-install...
Good luck!

*edit*
You cannot just replace the motherboard with XP.
The easiest thing to do right at the moment would be a repair/Upgrade/In-Place restoration of XP: http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;315341
If you did not have Service Pack 2 installed, you have to first use Recovery Console to delete Undo_guimode.txt or you will lose data and settings:
Discussion: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/312368/EN-US/
Recovery Console: http://support.microsoft.com/default...NoWebContent=1
Command to use: del C:\windows\system32\undo_guimode.txt
The type Exit.
Reboot from the CD and do the repair installation discussed at the beginning of this post.
Be sure to spend some time at the Windows Update site when you finish.

What Furyous said.. It could either be the OS preventing you from booting or the fact that there is so much changed that the OS just can't boot up. Anytime you put in a new MOBO and Proc its usually best to reinstall Windows.

What's yer set-up?
1gig ram and what vid card? Yer proccesor is fine for it obviously. You could probably run Vista just fine on it (I've ran it on worse) you just gotta tweak it a helluva lot so it won't take up so much memory.
More importantly though if yer gonna run Vista on a 1 gig machine you need to disable "SuperFetch" in the services and clear out all the shit in the prefetch folder.

I would also stay with XP... Vista is a 2GB minimum if you want it to run OK.
