I wanted to make a thread dedicated to all those friends and family of mine that do not know how to use their email accounts properly to protect those that they love and care about...namely myself. :hrmff:
There is a lovely feature in most of our email accounts that appears when we sign in and go to send or forward an email to a group of people we think will greatly appreciate some lovely morsel of spam we have come across. The feature is available in the same location where we would go to select those individuals lucky enough to receive an email from us. When you would ordinarily place names into the box labeled as "TO"...look a little closer and choose to use the "Bcc" section instead for all the names you might ordinarily send mass emails to.
Using "Blind Carbon Copy" keeps multiple addresses from being viewed by all the other recipients within the box. This will not only assure that no one in your mailing group gets the addies of the others, but also protects them from being forwarded on to the many other lucky recipients of that wonderful piece of spam via every other person on that list that doesn't choose to delete the addresses of previous senders/recipients when they forward on their emails.
Which brings me to my next point. If you happen to receive a forwarded piece of email from someone you care about, take the time to remove their email address from the body of the text, along with the other email addresses that haven't been deleted, so that when you forward their email you protect them from future unwanted scams and spams.
It is also a good idea to send an email on to these same people asking that they kindly start using the Bcc line when sending mass emails, and likewise to start removing email addies from text bodies when forwarding as well...and why. This is just one more step we can take to protect ourselves, and those we care about, from unwanted and possibly dangerous emails.
