So every friday at about 3PM my work gets to unwind and do what we like to call 'Team Building'. Usually when its nice outside we usually head out to the local park and play Ultimate Frisbee, Volleyball or some other team based physical activity. However when its nasty outside or during the winter we play network games. So this last week I get sent a link in an email to install this game called Urban Terror to play during team building. So I installed it and found out its this really kick ass game based on the Quake 3 engine. You can either play it on your local network or you can find servers out on the internet. It looks AWESOME and the nice thing is since its based on the Q3 engine you don't really need a kickass machine to play it. We set up a local server at work and played there since it was just co-workers and it was a rousing good time. I got my ass kicked alot but I gave out some too which is nice. The game really doesn't have a steep learning curve. I liked it so much I installed it at home that night and hopped on an Internet server in Europe, thinking I was going to get my ass handed to me but even out there I did pretty well.
Here is the best part: The game is absolutely FREE! You don't even need Quake 3, They actually took the core of Quake 3 and made it its only little mini-installer. You install it first(its less than a meg) then install the game which is about 400MB. If you already have Quake 3 you don't need to install the first part but its so small I would install it unless you already happen to have Q3 on the machine. The only other thing is you will need OpenGL drivers. This isn't a huge deal unless your only using the the built in Video Drivers that XP provides since they only do Direct3D. But if you install the latest drivers from NVIDIA or ATI they will install OpenGL.
The game is online only though, it has no 'offline components' but you should check it out if your into Team Fortress, Counter-Strike Etc.

I would love to find a good server and maybe put a 'Team Oddthought' together if there is enough interest!
