So this game has me really confused as to how to review it. The thing is I'm really enjoying playing it but I'm struggling to find anything good to say about it.
The game is now a semi-sim, a huge step away from it's arcade style past. The idea is you're a ex street racer (I assuming you're the same character they've used since Underground tho it never confirms this) turned pro, yep it's all closed circuit racing. This is one of the most dissapointing things about the game, that's as deep as the story goes. They could have done so much with the story, like bringing in Razor, Darius and even Cross (you gotta love his 'Vette) as rivals, it would have tied in nicely and added some real spice to the game. There's no cut scene's like the previous games and although they were cheesy they looked superb.
Now for the worst thing about the game, the modding system is really horrible, I mean FUCKING TERRIBLE. I mean fuck, EA has been doing this for about 7 years now, how they got it so wrong is beyond me. Body modding really limited compared to previous NFS games and you can't see the vynals and decals until they're on the car, which makes finding the right ones annoying and very time consuming, especially decals.
The control system is the same as previous games so no complaints there. However they have changed the nitrous system, you now have a limited number of shots depending on the stage of nos upgrade you have. When you hit the nos the whole bottle empties unlike previously when you could hold down the nos and control the burst lenght. While the new system is more realistic I used to use my nos to power out of corners and power correct slides, you can't do that now as you only have 2 or 3 shots for the whole race.
There is only about 45 cars in the game, the usual suspect tuners and a couple of supercars tho they've left out some great cars like Aston Martins, Mercades/McClarens, MX-5 and worst of all the best car ever made, the M3 GTR, there is stock M3's but NO GTR IS FUCKING DISGRACEFUL EA YOU STUPID COCKSUCKING MOTHERFUCKERS!!!!!
The cars feel REALLY heavy too and most suffer from really bad understeer, driving a Golf GTi, a very light, nimble car feels like you're driving some crap American car like a Camero or Viper or some other "useless if not on a straight" piece of American donkey poo (yes I hate yankie cars but come on, be honest, you know they suck too).
Ok all the usual race types are there, circuit, drift, speed, time trials and the grand return of drag racing. This is one thing they've done REALLY well. It's real dragging, one on one over a quarter mile or half mile complete with the christmas tree and all. Have enough power in your car and it'll rip a wheelie of the line and twist the chassie for sheer torque. Fans of Nitto will love it.
The graphics are great with realistic damage physics, you see every dent and scratch. Roll your car and you'll see a slow motion cut of your car getting totalled, complete with wheels and body parts (the cars, not the drivers unfortunately) flying everywhere.
The sound is spot on too, the best car sounds I've ever heard in a game.
It's a nice long game too, well over twice as long as Carbon, it'll take about 20hrs to finish.
So yeah, it sounds like I'm really bagging on the game but like I said, I'm really enjoying playing it, I just can't figure out why.
While it's light years ahead of Carbon it's still not as good as Most Wanted IMO. I'd suggest renting it before you buy to see if you like it.

My Score: 5.5/10

I'm really interested to hear what others that have played it think of it.

Ive played it, and can sum it up in one small sentence

"The fall of the NFS series continues"

Theyve got progressivley worse since 2, and this game is no exception, its only saving grace is better graphics, but who really cares about graphics when gameplay sucks
