firstly ill only be able to view this thread off of my fone so please dont post any screenshots etc. just plain text. also im not very good with computers [including jargon] so please be patient and write everything out in simple terms lol.
ok ive tried overwriting windows XP with windows XP pro. i went through the procedure selecting to overwrite the windows completely and it completed the installation, put in serial key and everything. once the process finished i got a message saying that the comp needed to reboot and would do so in 15 seconds to finish the installation. i left it to reboot and when it got to where it boots windows up i got lines of text at the top of screen saying 'boot from CD' twice. when i reboot the computer with the disc in though it wants to re-install it all from the begining. anyone had/know what this problem is and how i need to resolve it?

i had the same problem a few years ago ryan.
all you have to do is either take the cd out or change the BIOS settings to let it boot off of the HDD first.

yeah ive tried taking the CD out, im not that bad with computers :P. i was getting that message just before windows usually begins to execute with the CD out, booting with the CD in restarts the entire procedure. how would i alter the bios settings? im guessing ill need to access the main menu when the comp first opens?

yeah thats right Ryan.
My guess is that its your bios settings. To access your bios usually you press "del" when it first boots.... then when in there, make sure the option "boot from cd" is disabled. then try saving, re-booting and see how you go.

but it should skip the CD and move to the HD if it doesn't find something to boot from. Why is it not doing that?

only reason i can think of is if there was an error when the installation began.
and ryan when you press del go into the 2nd option (i think) or the 3rd. it will have 3 things written down teh side(with other shit) and they will say 1st bootable device, 2nd bootable device, 3rd bootable device.
just press enter and change them to 1st as HDD, 2nd as CD Rom, 3rd as Floppy.
