Do you still celebrate Christmas even if you're not religious?
I find it funny how people who don't even believe the event happened, still celebrate Christmas.
Discuss.

I hate Christmas and I hate religion of all types.
I do a half hearted effort at Christmas stuff just to keep the family off my back, but given a choice, I'd drop it completely.
It's a good excuse to get lagered up though.

I kinda agree with Shakey.
My whole family knows that I've been agnostic for a good 6 years now yet they have still given me christmas gifts every year even though I have said it's not necessary and ya probably shouldn't do it.
But alas they still do. But hey whatever if I can get gifts out of the situation it does not matter to me.
It just shows another weakness in Christianity. How 90% percent of the U.S. calls themselves christians, or believing in god. Yet 70% of those are not "true" christians. In other words christian is just a word they spout off cause they associate it with their god that they seem to think exist just because their parents and the media has told them, it's the popular theory, even though they do not follow the rules or worship at all.

Christmas is just an excuse made up to sell shit, there has probably been a few hundred thousand people called jesus born on christmas, you all are wasting your time celebrating one birthday.

im not a christian but i do celebrate christmas beacuse its the one time of year i get to see family members who live out of the area. i do agree tho that its mainly an excuse to sell more stuff, but i dont take part in that aspect of the holiday

What about everyone else? Is the credibility of this thread out the window because it was created by me or something?

The irony is the character known as Jesus wasn't even born in December lol.
Aside from this point, I think Christmas for a lot of people is just a reason for family and friends to get together.

See that's how wars start "Your not a Christian cause you don't believe the way I do or do the same things as I do"
That & it's a bit shady an agnostic deciding what a "true christian is"
Christmas is a time for families & children, as for the religous aspects make of it what you will.
There's enough shit in the world so enjoy what you can of the festive season & ignore what you can't.
I hope all of you & your families have a great time not matter how you choose to spend the time.

Well I was raised christian and in church and half my family are avid followers and worshippers and I know a lot about the bible so I am more than qualified to point out the people who really are christian, and those who just say that word cause they believe in a higher power and are american.
That said I would agree that christmas these days has really nothing to do with god or jesus for most families now, just a day of the year that family can get together and share their love with giving gifts.

It's Too Commercialised, But I'm A Prime Example Of Why :|

lol thats a good point!
Christmas is just the time of year when you're allowed to take an extra interest in your family and the people you care for. The gifts doesn't have to be so expensive, it's the thought that matters. And you get a chance, or almost a pressure from society, to spend extra time with your family. (for some (who live far from their family etc.) it's the only time of year this gets prioritized.. It's nice to gather familymembers for christmas rather than just funerals and weddings.
The religious aspect of christmas has never been important to me, I just view it as a nice slow break from a cold winter of work and busy days :)
