You're in the USA, right? Try This to start (http://www.brewingusa.com) and For supplies (http://www.homebrewusa.com/)
Set up can be a little pricey, depending on what you're going to brew and how much, but after that it's a whole lot cheaper than buying the 'real' stuff. I make my own IPA, lager, vodka, brandy, whiskey, rum and a southern-comfort like drink.

:O
ever been visited by customs & excise? :P
what would you recommend to a first time lager brewer in terms of storage? do you barrels or 2 litre plastic bottles? and do you decant into beer bottles?

Not yet, no.
I actually use glass bottles, if you save the bottles it's just a case of cleaning and sterilising them, then fitting crown caps once they're refilled. If it's your first time I'd use a barrel, I find that 2L PET bottles are a pain as I always seem to end up with leaking bottles. Of course, if you have enough space to store them upright that won't be a problem. I get all my stuff from here (http://www.art-of-brewing.co.uk/) . I expect they'd deliver to Ireland, but you might want to check that for yourself.
Good luck, and cheers!

A m8 and I used to brew our own. Had a 15l (I think) plastic drum for the initial brew then secondary fermentation in the bottle. Made some nice ones, in the winter we used an electric blanket to keep it nice and warm.
We made stout and someone said use honey, double the amount you would of sugar. That was too much, only 2-3 bottles didn't explode. My friend's mum was afraid to go in their laundry, where our brewery was. Between that and the local sheltered workshop closing (they collected, sterilized and resold bottles) we gave up.

I've had that happen before. Now I don't go in for secondary fermentation. Once it's bottled, it's ready to drink. And sterilising the bottles is easy! Just use a large dustbin filled with water and baby bottle steriliser...
Hell, if it's just effect your after, and you want the easiest process, buy a beer sack. All the ingredients are in it, fill it with water (following the simple instructions obviously), leave it somewhere warm for 3-4 weeks and drink.
