reports are here: http://www.cnn.com/2008/TECH/02/01/microsoft.yahoo/index.html and here http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/7222114.stm and hell all over the web at the moment!

So the question is...does a MS-Yahoo merger bring benifit or loss to us?

Personaly i hate yahoo, and microsoft aint much better..but a link up sounds interesting to me, if it means having one less program to speek to people im all up for it.

What say you?

I have no view on yahoo, I rarely use it, exept for a mail account I hardly ever use. But I agree with the post above, that microsoft becoming larger can't be such good news for us. Personally I'm actually considering to learn how to use a linux operative system, just so I won't have to start using vista.
But back to the topic at hand, I guess these mergers will keep happening, even though it's probably better for the competition (and for the consumers) to have more and smaller companies.

We don't need Microsoft more powerful. I don't think it'll be a good think. They'll probably try and revamp the Yahoo! website (which I think is better than Google by far) and it will look horrendous after that.

It'll be a big waste of money if they do... pretty much everyone uses Google, I don't see why surfers would want to change their searching habits unless Google went to shit.

Yahoo still has a large base using their email and IM clients. As far as search engines go Yahoo hasn't been a real player in years.

suggesting perhaps; that this is more to do with obtaining webmail and im user accounts rather than an attempt to compete in the search engine market?

seems like alot of money just for that....

damn, J, you're making me paranoid now...
I was thinking that perhaps Giggle could use the competition in the search engein dept., but I'd hate to see MS get to be THE dominant palyer in yet another sector of the market.
