The whole nation of Brazil came to a standstill today with the tragic news of the death of one of its sporting heroes, Ronaldinho.

Following their shock world cup quarterfinal exit, Ronaldinho had returned to his club Barcelona to resume pre-season training. It was there on the training ground that he broke a fetlock, and had to be destroyed.

Ronaldinho first came to prominence in the international sporting scene when he emulated the success of his father, Seattle Slew, by winning the Preakness at the age of three.

But many will remember Ronaldinho best for his performance at the world cup in Japan in 2002, when he became the toast of the whole of Scotland by singlehandedly defeating England (for whom his half-brother, David Platt used to play).

Others will never forget is memorable performance alongside Jack Nicholson in Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining".
