The British Army is one of the most trained armies in the world, and is second to none in the battle zone.

The reason the US has so many people in their armies is because it's a pure volunteer army - and those men and women CHOOSE to risk their lives for their country and their beliefs - a belief that freedom is worth fighting, and dying for.

As for best trained troops in the world, simple, Australian SAS followed by the Brits. Ever wonder why the US troops were able to wander into Iraq with no real oppostion? Fact: The Australian SAS was in Iraq a good two weeks before any other troops, taking out key military installations all the while being tracked by the Republican Guard (Iraqs elite squad) yet they not only didn't suffer any casulties but no major wounds whatsoever. Hell they single handedly took over the entire west side of Iraq on their own.

Wraith...while I do agree that Aussie special forces are one of the top units in the world, saying they were there before us really makes no sense. U.S. forces have been in Iraq since '91, obviously not in full force, but there has been a military prescence there. Also, the date of the article that you posted is Apr. 25 2003, the U.S. invasion of Iraq began on March 20 2003.

If you took the best of the best - the top 100.. while it's true that we don't have James Bond, I doubt there would be much difference in bravery, skill, honor or physical build - and that goes for any nation's 'best of the best'. Technology isn't so different from country to country, I'm sure.

I'm proud to be an American - happy to live in a free nation, thankful I'm as well off as I am, glad I can choose the education system I want for my children, admiring of the men and women in our armed forces, and looking forward to 2008 :ice:

But you would be surprised by the amount of Training Americans receive From Canadians.

I'm not saying it doesn't go both ways though.

The two countries are often sharing training as well as technology.

And as for the debate between the L85 and the M16(or C7 in Canada), I just have to ask why you think the L85 is better?

The L85 is quite a bit heavier (only 2kgs, but that shit adds up). Yes, it is a bullpup (the majority of the weight is BEHIND the pistol grip, allowing the soldier to move the barrel faster). The C7 is not a bullpup, but with only half the weight it can be moved about just as quickly. The main difference in weight comes from the C7 being made with plastic handguards and a plastic butt. In my experience the plastic bits are plenty durable, I've seen rifles get run over by a jeep and not crack the plastic (Yes, the numpty got charged). The C7 is also easier to maintain, it comes apart quicker, with fewer parts. The C7 is also very dependable, there have been days I've put 1800 rounds through the rifle without a jam (that wasn't caused by my dumb ass).

So again I'll ask: why the hate against the M16/C7?
