View Full Version : Racism goes both ways

Now I know this is an old topic thats been brought up time and time again, but sometimes things just push my buttons and I need to get things off my mind. Being a white person in america i've seen it many times, a colored person does something or feels he's being done wrong he will scream "it's because I'm black ain't it". Or some will throw the "I bet if I was white this wouldn't be happening." I've lived in many different states on the east coast from Maryland to Fl to Texas at one point, it's not limited to just certain location from what i've learned. A colored person tries run over a cop and the cop shoots the colored person it was racially motivated, a personal experiance with one of my friends really left a bad taste in my mouth. My friend a police officer for 5 years with the county, gets a call on a saturday morning about a man running around naked. He is the first on the scene after trying to get the man to calm down they get in a scuffle. The man gets the gun from my friend and shots him in the leg, they continue to fight and he gets his gun back and shoots the naked man. 3 days later the man dies in the hospital from the gun shot. It was later determined that he was high on meth. His family went on to sue my friend for shooting him, claiming it was racially motivated.
Then I see the Kanye thing on tv....it's dropped a few days later no big deal. Then I read this article today. In what to me is complete racism and you don't even really see anything about it anywhere. How is this acceptable but defending your life isn't? How can racism ever go away with these kind of comments. Don't get me wrong I acknowledge racism still exists, but no where on the level it was in the 60's. If a white actor had made these kind of comments what do you think would have happened?
The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter tells Blender magazine: "'Gangsta rap' was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other. 'Gangsta rap' didn't exist."
Keys, 27, said she's read several Black Panther autobiographies and wears a gold AK-47 pendant around her neck "to symbolize strength, power and killing 'em dead," according to an interview in the magazine's May issue, on newsstands Tuesday.
Another of her theories: The bicoastal feud between slain rappers Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. was fueled "by the government and the media, to stop another great black leader from existing."
Keys' AK-47 jewelry came as a surprise to her mother, who is quoted as telling Blender: "She wears what? That doesn't sound like Alicia." Keys' publicist, Theola Borden, said Keys was on vacation and unavailable for comment.
Though she's known for her romantic tunes, she told Blender that she wants to write more political songs. If black leaders such as the late Black Panther Huey Newton "had the outlets our musicians have today, it'd be global. I have to figure out a way to do it myself," she said.
The multiplatinum songstress behind the hits "Fallin"' and "No One" most recently had success with her latest CD, "As I Am," which sold millions.

I think the problem here is America. Not to get into that whole subject again...but to be honest I have never heard of things like this happening outside the U.S. and actually being a big deal, taken seriously legally, reaching the "news".
It's a corrupt country with stupid culture in-fighting, sheep who idolize and adopt celebrities, Freedom Of The Press <<< Very Bad "Freedom", and more importantly a completely fucked up legal system which allows these racist assholes to be able to do what they do.

whether or not discrimination exists in such cases is always a separate topic and should be investigated for validity. unfortunately playing the race card is apparently becoming widely accepted and ingrained in american culture. what it means is that if you are a minority and a slacker you can always use it as a cop out and turn it into a race issue.
It's a corrupt country with stupid culture in-fighting, sheep who idolize and adopt celebrities, Freedom Of The Press <<< Very Bad "Freedom", and more importantly a completely fucked up legal system which allows these racist assholes to be able to do what they do.
why do you believe that freedom of the press is bad? do you want the usa to become more oppressive like china? oddthought forum is accessible because of the first amendment.

Well, considering that Alicia Keys said it, I'd imagine something like this (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=alicia+keys+a+racist%3F&btnG=Google+Search) would happen. Plus considering that Comedy Central's Lil Bush just did a recent episode which played off of the Kayne comment, I'm sure people still make fun of him for something that absurd.
Honestly though, with comments such as Kayne and Keys are concerned, those comments are way out there. I mean in Keys's case, she travels into conspiracy land, stating that the government is responsible for "Gangster Rap" in order to stop black leaders from rising? Wasn't a major component of "Gangster Rap" the struggle of life on the streets and the various methods used to overcome it? Wasn't the big bad government trying to stop gangster rap from reaching the masses because of the language and imagery/message it contained? Has she seen a picture of Obama? While I'm not saying that it should go unnoticed - and from the looks of google it hasn't - there becomes a point where rational thinking people are going to dismiss it because without any proof it looks like crap.
As far as your friend goes, it happens both ways here. We've had racially charged riots for white cops having to shoot black people and vice versa. I'm sure many factors play into it, such as a generational gap of experience of racism, the particular area of the nation, an increased favor of a lawsuit happy America, etc. For all I know it could be possible that since the thoughts of extreme racist activity from the 60's and before is still etched in the minds of the people/community, so instantly any attack on black people is racism.
I think the problem here is America. Not to get into that whole subject again...but to be honest I have never heard of things like this happening outside the U.S. and actually being a big deal, taken seriously legally, reaching the "news".
Just for clarification, what exactly are the "things like this" that don't happen outside of the US?

Firstly China is not nearly as corrupt as the Western Media would have you believe (compared to a lot worse, and defiantly is no contest to the oppressiveness of the U.S. itself). They try to make themselves feel better by bullying other countries and making them look so much worse than the one true "land of the free" United States, it's what we do.
Secondly Freedom Of The Press is bad. And yes even without it I can still go talk on an internet forum. I'm not talking about some Dictatorship oppression here where you cannot state an opinion around the table of yer local favourite restraunt or some shit without going to jail. I am for the Putin type way of doing things as far as Freedom Of The Press goes. He has the right idea.
And as in things like this KS, I mean racism being taken advantage of, both ways. As in being able to sue people over it. People getting away with using freedom of press to be able to spread their bullshit on a national level where that type of talk should stay within their friends and community.
Things like this shouldn't come up and we shouldn't even be talking about them but we are because fagots like Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and oh so many others are able to spread their bullshit and get popular over it because of the media and because the topic gets spread when the only thing it should be doing is dying, not spreading and keeping alive. Fucking horse shit.

She admits that she said that stuff, but instead she blames the gov't for not doing more. She also stated that the ak47 necklace doesn't stand for the black panthers "kill'em dead" but rather her nickname. There is no doubt her publicst has had time to but their spin on things.
also as another reference look at Mel Gibson's last drunken arrest, he blamed jews for something or another and he was labeled a huge racist.

I've got a story which is kind of relevant here which as Craig said, left me with a bad taste in my mouth:
I was on a busy commuter train into central london, when getting on at my station (always a struggle) I asked if the guy in front of me could move in a little bit so i could get on, to which he replied "there's no fucking room, so fuck off" which promted a reply from me something like "that was productive big fella, thank you" and pushed my way on.
Now as we got the next stop (where alot of people get off the train) I got off the train myself to allow other passengers off, as I moved out of the way of the big fella who gave me abuse when i first got on, pushed me out of the way. To which I said. "I think you'll find the words excuse me"..... "what did you say cunt?" was the reply and i said, "I think you'll find the words excuse me..... cunt" - Which encouraged him to hit me in the face maybe 2 or 3 times, not so much painful, as an inconvenience considering i was surrounded by hundreds of people. Never the less, the fat guy got pulled to the ground and taken away by station staff.
Now as I got back on the train, slightly in shock at 8am on a monday morning. I noticed a black lady maybe in her mid 30's in a suit opposite me, staring.
I let this go on for a while, considering what happened earlier, perhaps she was concerned that i was ok.
But as this continued, I thought i'd ask her what the problem was.
This was her reply:
"I heard what you said to him, racists like you have no place here. You make me sick, you deserved everything you got, its a shame he didn't mess that face of yours up more"
It probably goes without saying the guy who hit me was himself, black.
I was absolutely disgusted, and quite frankly shocked, at having gone from the victim of an assault. To a racist. Simply because of someones warped opinion what actually happened.
Now a couple of things bothered me alot about this, one being that i didn't even hit him back. I'm not a fighter anymore, i'm over that stage in my life. Especially given the time of day and the situation I was in. But still, I felt just as guilty as the idiot who hit me, in fact even worse probably due to what that woman said to me.
Now i love London, I love being here, I love how its so culturally diverse. But I have to admit, this incident warped my opinion of race somewhat.
I have black friends, blah blah blah, of course, we all probably do to some extent. I'm not saying that doesn't happen.
But I seriously believe now, no matter how hard we try to integrate different races, it will never happen.
Black people will always have a greater bond with black people, simply because of their race.
And the white guy will always be criticised or in some cases labelled a racist. We have, throughout history after all, have it easier. You can't rewrite that.

imo, racism is deeply embedded in western culture. it's going to get worse before it gets better. everybody can make little personal strides, here and there, to heal the rift, but i don't think it much matters in the bigger picture.
i'm a grandpa(a most young one, so no old dude jokes!) to two of the most beautiful bi-racial boys, and i see a more pronounced racial divide than most white or blacks get to witness. when i take the oldest one, who looks strikingly similar to myself, to the store, we get dirty looks from both races. i feel sorry for him because he's going to have problems his whole life. he can't blend in one way or the other because he has darker skin than whites but too light to claim he is black. he has blonde hair/blue eyes, yet facial features that are obviously black...cute kid. his little brother, tho, can easily be considered black. he looks just like his daddy, just a little lighter complected...also most cute kid. when it's just me and him, people treat me as if i'm a babysitter or one who adopted a little black boy. strange looks we get, let me tell you. i think he will see alot less racial problems in life, tho, as opposed to his older brother. for that i'm grateful.
anyway, i'm here to say that racial divide/hatred is alive-and-well in american midwest! :(

My cousins, who are brothers, are the sons of my aunt, a Caucasian, and her now ex-husband, who is from Lebanon. My cousins look so different from each other - Chris, the oldest, looks totally white. Jeff has darker skin and black hair. He always gets hassled at airports, etc. My aunt used to get asshole people asking if they had the same father, 'what is he', stuff that isn't really any of their business but gets brought up because of how he looks. Like honestly, does it FREAKING matter?

In Australia there is a huge fucking problem with racial tensions you could say only going one way n what not, its fucking horseshite, forgive my opinion, but black people with the attitude that everything bad that happens to them is because their black, are utter and complete morons who aren't really much better then racist people.
I say that from the side of a racist too, because i am, i'll admit it, but do i have black friends? Yes, are they nice people? The ones im friends with, yes, but their families, oh boy, thats awhole other fucking story.

Arabic people are the latest victims in racism, I have seen it a few times with my own eyes. But they do consider themselves to be better than blacks or whites. People say Jewish people are cheap, well let me tell you arabic people are just as bad if not worse. I have some friends that are from Nothern Africa and are arabic. I've heard them say "Arabic people work harder than americans." plus some other stuff in Arabic that i couldn't translate.:cheeky:

Russell Crowe has been accused of being racist a few years ago. In fact he got into fights over it. (http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2002/11/16/1037080962180.html) Plus there was also the telephone throwing incident that caused injury to someone, and yet he still had a career after that. Usually it takes more than one act of stupidity to end anyone's career. However yes, I'm sure the comments would be made into tons of jokes as well.
Look at the Reverend Wright incident though, where he was blasting "God Damn America" to a congregation. If you get someone that is either famous enough or close to someone famous enough, the media will try to do something about it. The fact that the publicist had to spin it means that they were worried about the media spreading it around.
It's likely true that there's a bias about things being "more racist" if white people do it. I just don't have any hard facts to back it up.

Since we're all just sharing stories, I remember one time on the bus, one girl sitting near me started spouting off about how she hates white people, and how she would send them all to her death camp. I never said anything to her; I figure sooner or later she'll have a white probation officer. :hehe:

As I always stated multiculturalism will never work, it's a spiritual pipedream.
Only people who live in fairy tale lands believe tolerance of difference somehow solves acceptance.
Contrary to sheep belief, too much difference casues opposition.
Especially when personal morals or values collide against the majority rules concept.

Racism is prejudice based upon race.
well i'm racist then, as i hold prejudices upon humans, based upon their race.
I pre judge people, that is something that all people do, naturally.
and thus racism is not ingrained in western society, racism is ingrained in society as a whole.

I'm an online argument starter, because it compensates for my inability to get anyone in the real world to take me seriously, i'm weak, pathetic and insecure. You can find evidence in this in pretty much every post that I make. I contribute nothing, but take everything possible away from people and their posts on this forum. I don't like Uganja because he made me look like a cunt a few months ago when I couldn't remove my tongue from out of Tung's ass - Quite fitting I thought.

I'm not racist. But I have a problem when it comes down to dating other races. To date I've dated 3 native people, and 1 african american chick. The rest are white. Am I racist for this? I just don't find others attractive. I hate racism and cannot stand it when racial comments are said around me (jokingly or not). But when I think about my dating.....(for lack of better word) defect...... I can't help but think I am.
I've come to the defense of african american's all the time in fights who are getting beat just because they stand out visibly. At first they think I'm just trying to protect my race from them until I hit the white blokes. Then they ask me why I went against my own race. Now for the record I appear white but am many different things. Canadian, Polish, German, Brit, French, Swedish and native. All I can manage is to ask "Why were you being beat?" The most common answer I get is because I'm black. I then say "There's your answer." and I walk away.
Back to my earlier statement. Having read the previous paragraph, can I actuallly be called racist? Am I racist?

Everybody has more of a natural attraction to their own race. If you are raised around people of yer own race then ya naturally form an attraction at the sub conscious level for your own race at a very young age, the other part of it may simply be genetic, not sure. I wouldn't exactly call that racist.
Calienta
18th April 2008, 12:16 PM
I wouldn't consider that racism actually. To me racism is when you judge somebody based on their race, with a preconceived idea and stereotypes.
When you feel they're inferior (or even superior) merely based on their race.
Whether you find them attractive or not I don't feel is racism. It's just a physical preference.

Regarding the Blender Article "I feel it is necessary to clarify the comments that were made during my recent Blender magazine interview since they have been misrepresented.
Anyone who knows me and my character, knows that I am not a conspiracy theorist or, by implication, a racist. My comments about ‘gangsta rap’ were in no way trying to suggest that the government is responsible for creating this genre of rap music. The point that I was trying to make was that the term was over-sloganized by some of the media causing reactions that were not always positive. Many of the ‘gangsta rap’ lyrics articulate the problems of the artists’ experiences and I think all of us, including our leaders, could be doing more to address these problems including drugs, gang violence, crime, and other related social issues.
Additionally, regarding the AK-47 reference, AK-47 is a nickname given to me by some of my friends in jest, as an acronym for Alicia Keys and a metaphor for wowing people with my music and performances, "killing ‘em dead" on stage. The reference was in no way meant to have a literal, political or negative connotation.

Hehe. You took my response better than I expected.
And, no, I don't think you think everyone is scum because they are not white.
It came across that you think they are scum even if the are white. You came across as though you hate people before you even meet them, before they do any thing and it is not until they have proven themselves to you that you may consider them in any way positively.
That's how it came across but to be honest i doubt you are really like that.
But my question is why hate someone until they prove themselves? Why not start off neutral and let them sway your opinion based upon the way the are over repeated encounters?
As for the race card 'ooh it's because I'm black' or whatever, why get so upset about it. It will get abused like anything else - so what? What makes the abuse of this any worse trhan the abuse of any other kind of power or leverage?
That's life. Some people suck, some people don't.

because ive been netural before adn then have been fucked over cause of it. mainly by asians (used to live with about 15 of them at a time. it changed every few months though for 2 years.) and thats why. if you are exposed to a group of people from a certain culture for x amount of time then you will develop preconceived ideas of that culture weather it good or bad.
and the race card annoys me because in this day and age being a minority gives you more power then the "white people". in Australia (cant say for anywhere else) aboriginals get more money from the govt, more money in a paid job, more chances at jobs with black only jobs, they are treated better then others because if they arent the person doing the treating is a racist.
it is annoying and pisses alot of people off. yes the white population of australia fucked up with the stolen generation BUT that is not here today. yes some people still live from them adn i say compensate them for it but those that were not involved do not need the extra support as they are given as many if not more oppotunaties to better them selves. i believe the same is with the black population of america but not 100% sure.
