Spork!!!

I live on approx. 1 1/2 acres, but none of it is fenced adequately to stop a medium - large dog from escaping. With approx. 300 metres of boundary, much of it through large hedges (human-proof but not doog proof) fencing it so the dog didn't have to stay in her " run" (my BBQ and bar area!) was going to mean a second morgtage! :@
I resesarched all I could and spent $235 AU on a second hand electronic dog fence on e-bay. It came with 100m of wire, another 120m cost me $70. It works by sending a weak signal along the wire, it's not " live", you can hold it and even work on it (cut/splice) while the unit is on, although it won't work... the dog wears a unit on her collar that detects the signal and gives a warning beep when 1st detected, followed by a mild shock 2 seconds later it ther dog (collar unit) continues to approach the wire. The stimulus is increased if the dog gets closer.
I tested it on myself at full strength, and wouldn't want too many jolts like that, but not too bad... I gave the dog 3 training sessions where she heard the beep but didn't get a shock, she wouldn't approach the red/white marker tape I used to teach her the boundary after thet! Only got 1 " sorrection" when she tried to follow wife and kids in car out the drive.
In short, for anyone needing to prevent a pet from wandering with a large area (or samll) to fence I couldn't recommend therse things highly enough!
$300, 8 hours work and 220m of dogproof "fence" to show for it, easilly expanded for $60/100m! And you can't even see it's there!
