NAPERVILLE, Ill. — The principal of Naperville Central High School, Jim Caudill, has found himself in hot water for using plagiarized passages in a speech he delivered earlier this week.
The lifted passages came from a speech a 1997 Naperville Central graduate delivered eleven years ago. That former student is now a teacher at the school and was in the audience.
Caudill has admitted the plagiarism and spent part of Friday explaining himself to teachers. He also called himself a "knucklehead."
Caudill says he wasn't pleased with his own speech and decided to quote from a good one delivered by Megan Nowicki-Plackett in 1997 — meaning to call her and ask her permission. But, for various reasons, he never got around to doing it.
