View Full Version : Operation Get hoos In Shape!
hoos
12th June 2008, 06:51 PM
Destination: June 6, 2009
Occasion: hoos is getting married.
Why: He has to look good b/c the future Mrs. hoos is smokin'
So this is what hoos has started to do. He runs 3 to 4 times a week. The heat has been pretty brutal so I haven't been able to do too much. He then does some push-ups 2-3 times a week and a short ab work out 3 times a week. I only do this because I don't know what to do because I've never had to make my own workout.
Your Mission: Help me hash out something to do that doesn't take too much time because I don't have that much time. Too much time is like over an hour.
Once again, hoos needs to get in a smokin' condition in the next year ;)

My brother's advice on how to bulk. Dunno if this is right or not but he's pretty bulky so it might work:P
Pick a weight you can lift but it's pretty damn heavy. You should only be able to do about 10 reps with it. Do 10 reps :) Few minutes later, do 10 reps again. Repeat.
Do that several times a week. He said after 3 weeks he could already feel the difference in his pecs.

Run in front of lions (Y) :D
Seriously tho, join a gym, they can easily help you get in a nice smoking shape ;)

I guess I should have specified a little more. I'm biding my time until I get back to school, because there I have a free gym. I'm trying to get in shape first (b/c I'm horribly out of shape) and then I'll start lifting more in a few months. SO basically I'm just looking for an at home workout that is simple.

do some basic stretching and then do stairs and running while doing the pushups and situps
google "Mr Fat Loss" it has a breakdown of the exercises he recommends. he is the trainer my girl uses she is a dancer and after our baby she wanted to get back into pre baby shape and she is only about an inch away in 2 weeks. granted she only wanted to lose 3 inches but this guy is pretty hardcore. all this depends on the ability you have to push yourself because without someone pushing you its much harder to get the good gains. or you just do the best overall workout in the world...swim

I don't think hoos wants to lose weight - judging from his msn pic he's pretty slim already. Scottie is it just you want to get your heart in shape and maybe bulk?

Yes ma'am. I wouldn't mind losing a pound or two around the middle (pants getting a little tight) but my main goal is to get back in physical shape and then get a rock hard, chiseled body that the ladies can't keep their hands off of. OK not that far, but you get my point ;)

start off every exercise with cardio, get your heart rate up and blood flowing.
Then while working out don't take very long breaks between sets and don't stop moving. This does 2 things 1) You will still build while slimming around the middle because you will burn more calories and 2) You are on limited time so this will get you through your workout quicker without sacraficing results.
You have a year so don't get stuck in one routine over and over - mix it up to keep interest and confuse your body. Don't do full body workouts - stick to 2 muscle groups a day, then while those recover do a different 2 muscle groups. Abs don't count - do those 3 days a week for 15 minutes after your normal workout.
Drink a ton of water - and eat a ton of protein (your body weights worth in grams per day) Water is good for so many reasons especially when you have strained muscles - you are mostly made of water. You won't become water logged or bloated.
One thing that people often overlook - take a multi vitamin every day
Good luck!

165g of protein is not health. Trust me, I'm marrying a dietician.
I'm just looking for a couple of home exercises to do that will get me in shape, and a little toned.
Right now I've got push-ups and sit-ups as well as running. What other type of ab exercises should I do? What other kind of arm exercises can I do? I don't know how to work out without a gym, but I want to learn how. ANd my legs get enough of a workout with the run. There isn't a flat stretch in my neighborhood.

regular sit ups are crap, lay as you would in a normal situp position but then actually extend your legs so they are angled at about 45 degrees off the floor, crunch your ab muscles in and look up at the ceiling, then do a "situp" moving your legs and torso towards each other, always while looking at the ceiling.
this works the entire ab area (which is actually just one muscle) rather than what is generally and mistakenly reffered to as the "upper abs" like regular sit-ups do

lol yer, i would stretch properly if doing any work with stairs as you pretty much use every muscle from arms, shoulders, stomach, thighs calfs etc

Yeah those sit-ups are good. I'll be doing more of them. Hopefully in a month when I go to the beach, my bathing suits will fit a little better. I need to try and work on my eating a little more.

One thing you can do for core strength, that takes absolutely no time, is get rid of the chair at your comp. and get a "fit-ball" to sit on. They are quite comfy, and give you good abdo. exercise while you sit at the screen. Cost about $60Au, less odd ebay...

Is this Dwight K. Schrute? If so, I'll be popping your fitness ball with my scissors.
If you didn't get that, sorry. But I have a laptop and I don't sit at a desk 3/4th the time I'm using it. Thanks though for the suggestion. I'm looking for things like that, that I can do.

I used to have pretty bad back pain (runs in my family, my 18 year old bro has it too) and I switched out my office chair for a fitness ball and my back doesn't hurt anymore. (Y)

Well I don't have a yard to do work in :bleh: This running business I think will work out well until a get to school and a 'free' gym.
I also have got more hours at work and that's cutting into my daylight. I'll be working 6:30-5:30 until further notice.
