Chronic

ok, so im not the most computer savy individual on the planet and it seems i battle movie downloads and so i give up. Well, im sick of giving up.

Last night i downloaded hancock from isoshunt, says dvdrip. Figured i could watch it on the pc and rip to dvd for family. Well i have a nice toshiba player but when i went to open it, it went straight to windows media player and then i could hear it but all it was showing were those goofy psychodelic lines, like i should be on acid or some shit.

I attempted to open it under my toshiba player and it showed the file but when i clicked on it, it said file not found. WTF?????

First off, i need help on why i have no picture on media player, then how do i get it to quit defaulting to media player and onto my toshiba player? I thought it showed that there was a automatic codec with media player so i could see the movie but maybe im wrong.

Once i get help with this, im sure i will be back here with, how the hell do you rip dvd's.....lol.....no really.........lol

what is the extension of the file?

if it is *.iso it should be burned as an image onto a dvd, and then it will play

however, there are a number of different media players that can play an *.iso (vlc player is one)

so... google the file extension in a sentence of " how can i watch an *.___ file"

first off.

media player wouldnt have the proper codec hence why it cant play it.

try downloading media player classic (works and is a great program)

if you want to make the toshiba as default then right click on the movie and go to open with and then browse (will come up with a list of programs) find the one you want to use and check the box marked make default for this file type.

to burn into a dvd depends on the file type.

if it from a torrent then chances are it is either a .avi or .iso

.avi i use nero 7. if you need to know more for that ask.

with an iso it means that it is an image already and all you need is an iso burning program to put it onto a dvd. there are lists of free ones in teh freeware thread list in here.

if i havent answered your questions then lol ask again

LOL NOOBS!! and I'm not talking about chronic..

99.9% of ALL DVDRIPS from torrent sites are divx/xvid encoded. He needs those two codecs to watch the movie. I'm not sure if VLC installs with them but you can get them here..

Divx:DivX Video Player - DivX Video Codec - DivX Converter (http://www.divx.com/)
XVID: Download the XviD Codec - XviD Movies (http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/)

you can give me a break there bud, Ive been helping on the videohelp site for 4 years. 99.99% of all playback problems on media players can be solved with the ffdshow decoding filter.

ffdshow is a DirectShow decoding filter for decompressing AVI, DivX, XviD, WMV, MPG, MPEG2(SVCD, DVD), H264, AC3, DTS, AAC with image postprocessing like video noise removing filters and audio postprocessing. Over 70 bugs have been fixed, codecs have been updated, and support for a few new formats has been added in the tryouts. Vista is now supported.

Sorry man but I haven't had alot of luck with FFDSHOW.. I usually just get those two codecs and don't sweat the rest since its just loading down the PC with codecs I'll never use.

It can be finicky at times. Myself I use the CCCP codec pack since I watch alot of stuff with different containers and with multiple subs, and audios.

yeah, "avi" stands for audio, video interleaved. Other video containers like mastroska ".mkv" and ".ogm" are just containers that house multiple audio and video files.

Matroska, MKA, MKV, MKS
A new video and audio container format similiar to AVI but with several new features like support for OGG audio, Variable Framerate Video.
Matroska File Formats:
.mkv : Generally video files, as well those containing audio ( movies ) or video only
.mka : audio only files, can contain any supported audio compresion format, such as MP2, MP3, Vorbis, AAC, AC3, DTS, PCM and soon MPC ( musepack )
.mks : a so called 'elementary' matroska stream containing any subtitles stream
For more info, see Matroska Official Homepage (MKV/MKA) (http://www.matroska.org)

OGM, Ogg Media file/stream/container is a video and audio container similiar to avi, and matroska

Yes it does, you're an idiot if you say otherwise since you're now in my realm of knowledge.

About VLC media player

VLC media player is a highly portable multimedia player for various audio and video formats (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, mp3, ogg, ...) as well as DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols.
It can also be used as a server to stream in unicast or multicast in IPv4 or IPv6 on a high-bandwidth network.
It doesn't need any external codec or program to work.

download here (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/)

Yes, but if you read there release support. It can play them no bother and the sound and image is fine. However you cannot skip forward and backwards. Because this IS NOT SUPPORTED.
