but i gotta tell you, although maybe its just me, but McCain is coming across much better in the British press than Obama and the Democrats. The Republicans have made an austere choice in a female vice too, in my opinion....... for sure McCain is old and Palin is apparently "inexperienced" but the way things look is that theyre going to be hard to beat..... but thats from this side of the pond..........

If McCain wins it's not really going to be good for the working class americans, Obama promises alot of things. If half of his promises were kept he would do alot for america. Obama wants Universal Healthcare and increase taxes on the big companies while taking away tax breaks their getting for moving the jobs overseas. Also decreasing taxes on working class americans. All of this is why McCain calls Obama crazy.

u know..i got a real issue with her...the media went into a frenzy with her teenager getting preggers....big deal it happens every day all over the world, if anything that goes in her favor as people can relate to it.
My issue is this, she has a 1 year old downs child! Now if you know anything about a downs child, you know it needs serious attention, i mean its a full time job on its own, never mind being vice president of USA of all places.
So how is she gonna manage it...and how is she supposed to do a job with that responsibility on her back, and the inexperience of the new job!
I think its all tosh, its all about getting the female vote as obama or whatever his name is didn't pick Clinton. Give it a year and she will step down for the sake of her child and then they will put who they originally wanted in the spot!

you gotta credit the republican strategy - i think its genius to show the democrats up and have a female vice.
in other news: sarah palin is married, Tom Palin BP production worker (wikipedia), raising a family is a two person job, why shouldnt she be able to manage?? on behalf of womens lib...... gives jacx a slap :slap:

The problem with that is most Hillary voters are actually finding the Palin addition to be completely insulting. Not only are Clinton and Palin completely different on an ideological level, but the choice screams of "gimmick."
P.S. Here's a funny, yet fairly accurate portrayal of Mrs. Palin's choices.

I live in Canada......universal healthcare isnt that great.......i know i would rather wait 4 months for surgery than not be able to afford it at all but our hospital system is a joke
tax big companies, their profits go down (for the NPAT anyway), less good news for shareholders (and/or lowered dividends), stock price goes down, country goes into recession even more and thats bad news. hurt big business, hurt the entire country. lower class doesnt seem to ever understand this.
its not taxes making people lose houses.....its just shitting business. not really the governments fault that the banks got greedy and made extremely risky investments. Just like it wasnt governments fault that tech companies were lying about earnings and people went investing crazy.....but i will admit there were some bad laws and some corruption that didnt help.
I cant vote and i really dont like either party at all, but i think the obama hype is not because of the issues. people tend to justify all of his issues because he is in their minds the savior. get over it - hes not going to change the entire country. he cant change everything that much. id rather have a president who scares our enemies and is good with the economy.....too bad mccain is only half of that and obama is neither.
this ^^ is all just my opinion.

look at my avatar spam lol It really isn't universal health care he is trying to get, it's coverage for kids. You theory of taxing the big companies has a hole in it. If stocks go down as you say....who does it affect? Poor people as you say it don't own stock. As it is right now they get tax breaks for sending jobs to mexico, canada, and china. So it would seem to me the constant lay offs in america so a company can get cheaper labor and a tax break along with raising cost of oil is the reason for people losing their houses and the economy woes we are having.

Many "poor people" own stocks, although not directly. Not only can they have small accounts for trading stocks (direct method of stock ownership,) but think about any company retirement plan. Some have company stock options, others have 401k/403b's or even smaller plans such as SEP-IRA's/Keoghs/etc. Now those plans only allow you to invest in mutual funds, but mutual funds are little more than a package of stock holdings with a consistent theme or investment strategy. So far more people would be affected by stock prices going down than you'd probably want to think.
The real "hole" is the "spiral effect" that taxes on a company would bring is actually quite minimal on the markets (and therefore stock prices) themselves. All stock market prices are is a reflection of what investors think the stock is worth. While a stock's price would most likely go down if taxes are increased, that effect would be a short term hit rather than a long term spiral. After the next quarter, all analysts that are judging the stock and making their upgrades/downgrades/consensus reports will already have factored in the new taxes. On top of that, the massive outflow of sold stock would probably not happen as most of the stocks are held by institutions (Mutual Fund Managers, pension plans, etc.) and not by common every day investors. That's a bonus since those institutional holders always have the long term investment strategy in mind.
Bottom line: If the company is solid, the tax increases will not have a drastic effect on the company over the long run. If a company was barely hanging on to begin with, then they may have more substantial issues. But the same could be said for any major policy changes that have an effect on the economy, not just a tax increase.

I had a Sarah Palin quote about Jesus being born for wartime issues or something, and all I could think about was the Family guy version of "Passion of the Christ 2." Unfortunately I suck at the google, so no really funny connection is going to be made here.

The Clintons will hold the power, IF the Democrats get elected. You may have your first black president, but you wont have a new leader.

When I think of poor KS i'm taking it as people on welfare, SSI, and min. wage. The example your giving I take more as "Middle Class" because your mentioning 401k's and investment porfolio's. Someone making min. wage brings home about $1000 +/- a month (rough estimate of $6.55/hr 40hrs a week) I don't see how anyone making that much money could really afford to invest anything. Now i've heard of what your saying companies such as WALMART and MICkey D's offer a program where employee's can buy shares of the company at some sort of discount. But at the same time they barely pay over min. wage.
And Brian the clintons have no power..ie clinton lost the primary.

Last serious posting, then back to the attempted funny.
Actually, many people that you'd even consider poor are becoming more and more into investing, and probably don't realize it. Many companies are now forced to automatically put people into retirement plans if they work full time, unless they opt out of it. The 2-3% of their paychecks go toward the retirement, and they may not be well aware of it. Is it much? Nope, but then again the real point I was driving at is the minimal effect these people have on the market if they decide to leave anyway.

even if obama does only half of the things he says..
it would still be better than what McCain promises..
