View Full Version : How fucked is my computer?

As the title says, and here is the screenshots of the screen it won't go past. It's not to do with viruses or malware, it's to do with kicking the PC (I'm a bad loser - fuck you Football Manager)... so is it fucked to the point I need a new tower or is it self fixable? I've been thinking about getting a new tower anyway but just wanted opinions first.

Then...

And eventually this...

And then it just stays there.

I done what you said, opened it up and cleaned it all. No joy. I got frustrated and kicked it and now it's working again. But should I be safe and just get a new one?

Actually it didn't fix it but it did go further than before. So who knows the best place to get a customised PC? :D

I just bought this (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=250300301324) one. Now can someone come in and tell me how much I overpaid for it please.

Your old one was stuck on the bios boot. you could have booted from usb by changing the bios order and going from there.

How would I do that? I wouldn't mind having a working PC until Tuesday and being able to back my shit up.

Hacking Windows XP: Speed Up Your Boot - Changing the Boot Order of Your Drives - OS, Software & Networking by ExtremeTech (http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,1785998,00.asp)

read that, changing the boot to read from a cd first would mean if you have a copy of windows it'll boot from the cd.

It requires a working keyboard. I broke that a few days ago... I'm a twat, I know.

i would think the computer needs to POST before it is going to pick up a usb drive

during the POST, you will likely hear a few beeps -- the number of beeps and the grouping of the beeps will let you know what the failure is

as for the new PC -- seems to have everything covered...it is too bad that the external Sata HD enclosure you bought doesnt have an esata~sata connection. its a shame to have to use that drive at USB speeds!!!

First, I would try making sure your ram is properly seated into it's slots.

Next, I would unplug the computer, give it 20 seconds or so to be sure all power is drained from the system. Then remove the CMOS battery, it looks like a watch battery on your motherboard, wait another 20 seconds, and reinsert the CMOS. This should reset the BIOS.

And I don't think you overpaid on the new system, but I would have looked for better RAM - faster anyways - it is one of the least expensive upgrades you could have done.

Good luck and if all that above doesn't work you can always keep trying your kicking method

You beat me too it.. kicking BOX = RAM getting knocked loose. I would open the box and make sure they are seated correctly. Right now your not even IN the boot sequence so changing any of that won't help.

OH and STOP kicking the damn computer!

i just read this and thought same thing, take that battery out and leave it out for a full 2 min, then put it back in, boot, enter bios, submit correct time/date and standard bios settings and try from there..the fact ur getting a post screen means somethings working.

and yeh, all ram/cards out and back in...and touch the case before u start to de-static yourself.

EDIT: i would go with dy and red about not kicking it...but hell i kicked mine over the very same game so meh

I left it for like 5 hours and tried switching it on randomly and it switched on. I couldn't type this though because as I said elsewhere, the keyboard is broke lol.

is this the tower you got from ebay a year or two ago steff? you really need to get a punch bag in your room so you can stop kicking the pc in anger

Yeah... bump. :(

New PC, same-ish problem. It's got to the same screen except it displays my RAM then goes no further prompting me to boot it up by some other means that what it was doing. I tried taking the BIOS/CMOS battery out but I couldn't. The YouTube video made it look easy but was it fuck.

It was working fine yesterday so fuck knows what's wrong. I'm on Windows Vista Enterprise Service Pack 2 if anyone can help. When I put my Windows Vista Enterprise disk in it doesn't boot up the BIOS. This might be due to the fact the CD was burned from the original disk (the serial is legit though).

First recommendation, stop buying computers off ebay god knows what is still lying on the drives! Secondly take it to PC World for a health check, think it cosrs £30 and thirdly stop kicking the fucking thing lol! I know football manager can get frustrating but buy a cat to kick instead :P

I've found out what's wrong. The drive is frazzled. It's not being detected and when i put it in as an external HD on this PC it isn't being detected either.

sometimes you need to tell the comp. the drive is there via bios - shouldn't have to with a new PC you just bought, but mebbe...
Also check the boot sequence. If you've reset BIOS it may be trying to boot from DVD drive instead of HDD.
I agree with "keep your old comp. and kick that one instead of the new one".
Also, wear socks when playing football manager. :)
