I've recently switched over to Firefox, and it seems to be much slower than IE. I have always heard that it was a bit faster, any thoughts?

1. Open Firefox, and type about:config in the address bar. Don’t worry about the warning that comes out.

about-config_warning
2. Use the filter above to find network.http.pipelining and set it to True by double clicking on it.
3. Create a new boolean value(right click/new) named network.http.pipelining.firstrequest and set that to True.
4. Find network.http.pipelining.maxrequests, double click on it, and change its value to 8.
5. Now look for network.http.proxy.pipelining , set it to True.
6. Create two new integers (right click/new)named nglayout.initialpaint.delay and content.notify.interval, setting them to 0.

Now restart your browser and check a few heavy-loading websites to see if those changes worked or not.

You can also change your DNS server to something more reliable than your isp's like Open DNS. https://www.opendns.com/homenetwork/start/

or if you know how, change your DNS servers to:

Preferred DNS server address for Open DNS is:
208.67.222.222

Alternate DNS server address for Open DNS is:
208.67.220.220

Note that Internet Explorer will always be faster on certain web pages because they were specifically designed/optimized for IE's engine.

However after applying tweaks to Firefox's about:config it will almost always make it faster than IE no matter the web page.

pipelining isnt good for all systems though, some it will slow down quite a bit...

If Firefox takes up too much memory on your computer, you can limit the amount of RAM it is allowed to us. Again, go to about:config, filter “browser.cache” and select “browser.cache.disk.capacity”. It’s set to 50000, but you can lower it, depending on how much memory you have. Try 15000 if you have between 512MB and 1GB ram.

There was... if you want the ultimate list of things you can change in about:config to make Firefox faster/more responsive or just in general tweak things to your liking then take a gander at: TweakGuides.com - Firefox Tweak Guide (http://www.tweakguides.com/Firefox_10.html)

It's where I get all my shit from.

Yeah I forgot how cool those tweaks can be. I need to reapply them to the family PC downstairs.. Thanx Dave!

So what does everyone think of FF 3 vs FF 2?
