xbox 360 vs ps3

So my kid wants a xbox 360 and im more of a playstation person but to be honest, i dont know jack about the 360 or ps3.

Any advice on what the diff is between the two and what appears to be better would be great.

I see the 360 comes without a HD or has two diff size HD. Now do you need a HD to save games or can u get the base 360 and buy a memory card?

Does the ps3 have a HD, memory card, or what?

Like i said, been out of the video game arena for a while and am clueless about these two systems.

Chronic, hope i can help a lil bit!

I have also always been a Playstation Lover all my life, but i went for a 360, and i have not been disappointed with my decision as of yet.

I would have to recommend it to people, couple of flaws that you may want to look at before purchasing a 360!

It comes as a bog standard 360 console, without a HD, but i strongly recommend getting the 60GB console or even the Elite with the 120GB HD, with only around £50 difference in many stores near me and online.

The XBOX flaws,

Need to pay for online play whereas on PS3 it comes free. Depends if your into that sort of stuff, but i love it and cant get enough of the online capabilities.

The XBOX also has alot of problems with OverHeating and the dreaded 3 red lights. But a Cooling system can be purchased for a small fee.

THe PS3 systems do come with a HD but not to sure about these systems to be completly honest with you!

On the technical side, PS3 wins hands down cause its features are brilliant and the graphics are phenomenal. On the whole, the console is a much better platform than the 360. Then again, if you're on a budget, look into the 360 cause its almost half of what the PS3 is. Conversely you could wait till summer next year when PS3 prices drop even more.

So in the long run, a PS3 is actually going to be more economical for ya, even though the console price is outrageous right now.

I go to Video Game Cheats, Reviews, FAQs, Message Boards, and More - GameFAQs (http://www.gamefaqs.com) for info on consoles and new games. I highly recommend it to read and fill in your doubts on your grey areas. Its saved me hundreds of dollars on buying games that appeal to me but were not good in reality. I currently have a 360 and wish that I had bought a PS3. I’ve had to send out my 360 3 times,1st they gave me another new one and the last two times they repaired it. The 3 red rings is a pain in the ass, if I remember correctly its most often some conductive goop that breaks down from the console not being able to cool itself. PS3 uses blue ray which has much more storage than a HD disc which means the PS3 version usually has more levels and stuff. Since blue ray ousted HD its something to look at. As far as I know PS3 is coded for all games made for PS and PS2 but 360 has to update online to play old Xbox games which sucks if your in a rural area without high speed connection.

we plumped for 360 because you can get all the games and the console was cheaper than ps3. however, prior to this console i was a ps fan. We love the online play on 360 and although you have to buy it you can get 13 months for £25 plus a free month when you make a new handle so you can have 14 months online gaming for £25, works out at about 42p per week.

I should mention that xbox online gaming is very good and I know that ps had a lot of problems with their online play in the past. i don't know if these issues have been resolved with ps3 but I suggest this is looked into before you spend your hard earned cash because your kid will likely be most interested in this aspect.

i say go with the 360... i have had mine for over 4 years now and no problems... yes we have to pay for online but it is really cheap... we have way more games ... it was out alot sooner then the ps3 which means alot more players online for the games.... my advise is to be sure not to run it off a router if your online because most games need a good conection to play... take for instance cod4... if ya run threw a router it will kick ya out alot... so run it right from your modem... if ya choose the 360 and get it online add me DAD N THE BOYS

We tried a Wii and and it was only fun for chronic and I. Our boys didn't love it as much as we did. Maybe for a few months but not long. I think not enough crazy "boy" stuff, you know blood, guts, death, pimping all the norm for kids now a days. lol.

He probably hates it because all the games fucking suck for anything but a 20 minute last ditch effort to cure boredom.

I'd much rather play games that have advanced graphics WITH advanced gameplay and optionally a good story to go along. Wii has none of those things....only thing that can be possibly called "advanced" with it is how you control it but thats only because Nintendo incorporated it into mainstream gaming first; the technology itself has been around for a long time yet they failed to make it significantly better....still very clumsy.

Yeah maybe...I've played Wii for that reason. Just didn't do it for me really.

I've had much more fun playing multi-player games on PC such as Team Fortress 2 and Counter Strike with other people, while being on vent etc.

Same goes with MMO's and being on vent....I play with my RL friends all the time on TF2 and WoW and I've always had a much better time playing those games with RL friends across vent than I ever did in person playing a Wii.

It's not about the game, it's about the people you meet and share experiences/stories with. I know a guy who we all spoke to on vent that 3 years ago had horrible english and could barely carry a conversation...since playing the game he is as fluent as a native and his accent is very weak now and is one of the more popular, funny guys.

Oh and let's not forgot that I have made $600 selling an account for essentially doing nothing but having fun.

your not gay for playing MMoRPG's i play them too, you just have awfully poor choice in them.

If you want to get on to "selling accounts" me and a friend played dark age of camelot, we made in excess on £5000s selling accounts we powerlevelled, taking all of 18 hours played on each of the 5 accounts.

Alright. So WoW alone is gay? Not sure why anyone would think that if they play other MMO's themselves. It didn't get ridiculously successful by chance. The only other MMO's that I really got into was Star Wars Galaxies and now WAR a bit...but I always came back to WoW in some form and point in time because despite all of it's faults it simply is the best one on the market.

But yeh I've helped sell and have sold my own accounts over the past 8 months. I sold my personal one that I first had when starting the game for $600. Helped sell my friends personal for $700. And used a banned account and used a scam to dupe $1,100 out of this idiot...which my friend and I split the money to go to Chicago.

Right now I still play WoW with my old friends occasionally. But I don't pay for it. I use my Kiwi buddies account...because of the time difference and jobs we can pretty much play whenever during normal hours and not clash with each other.

when PS3 came out i bought 2, one i played for a while and didnt like the graphics compared to my 360 then it went bad and had to be sent back to sony... i said screw it and used the other one... it worked but at that point i just installed a new OS on it and worked great but nothing came out for the longest time so i sold it to my friend... i like the ps3 but its not going to be worth it as someone has stated that it is...

$60 a game for both 360 and PS3
free online for PS3 and microsoft has a silver, gold and platinum member ship which are different prices and shit not sure how it works exactly and never cared to question them... i bought the platinum and get everything and love it.

Graphics to me are also equal but to me the 360 has slight advantages IMO. speed is basically the same with both systems eventho they are 2 different types.

My 360 is the original model when they first came out. i bought the HD add-on (called Microsoft and said i didnt understand why i paid for the hd drive so they told me to mail my proof of purchase + copy of the reciept and they refunded my money for it for free) and becuz i bought that i qualified for the 5 free HD dvd's (smart shit). then i went out and bought the $20 system intercooler that installs onto the back of the unit (called MS once again and explained its BS for the new systems to have the intercoolers built inside and i paid more for mine... and dont get it, they refunded me once again and gave me new cables for free including the fiber optic sound cable)

those are just my experiences, i recommend reading online reviews and tech news on both consoles before buying either... see what games you and your kids like also... that plays a huge rule in the system... think things thru on all fronts before throwing cash around... I play all 3 systems and my fav is the 360 due to its unique structure and upgrades...

also for 360 they just bought the rights to netflix to stream it using their system's marketplace ;)

I just have to disagree with Wraith on Sony Fanbois when he just blew by the fact that the XBox360 has the highest rate of failure of all console games. I wouldn't buy one for that reason alone.. I'm not a fan of multiple returns of one product.

I love my Wii for fun and my PC for RTS and FPS. Nothing on a console beats WASD and a mouse.

Well this is my specialty so I can definitely shine some light on this situation :thumbs: I work on a website as a Super Moderator since my departure from this site, its called NextGenUpdate. All we do is exploit, hack, and glitch games and consoles. Ive as well owned 2 Xbox 360's and 1 PS3 and 1 Wii. And the only one I still have left is now the PS3.

Reasons why:

-Wii is a dumb, and ps3 has same abilities with motion sensor controllers.
-Xbox 360 does have the highest return rate of any console to EVER hit the market at one time it was over 47% returned.
-Xbox 360 is very ban happy with anyone that exploits their consoles. (Which means no fancy mods)
-Xbox 360 overheats and will freeze with or with out the intercooler.
-Xbox 360 has 1-2CPU's and GPU's where ps3 has 8 if i remember correctly.
-PS3 has updates that have yet to be released which will keep putting its functionality way past what the 360 can do and infact has already passed it with its resent updates.
-PS3 games have the ability to be shared if download from the psn store, xbox live straight up will ban your shit for that.
-PS3 controllers are all motion sensors and wireless.
-PS3 has a built in web browser.
-PS3 has bluetooth
-PS3 has built in blu-ray where 360 you have to purchase a HD dvd player to attach.
-PS3 has the ability to support currently a 160GB hd.
-PS3 has the ability to connect to a psp and play the psp through the console.
-PS3 has the ability to connect a printer to your ps3 to print documents/images etc where 360 doesnt.
-PS3 has built in wifi where with 360 you need to purchase an external adapter.
-PS3 has HDMI connections where with 360 only the elite and pro have it.

So ya if you take all that into consideration the price doesnt matter. When i purchased my PS3 it was $535 and that was over a year ago and I have not had 1 problem occur ever. Where when i had the 360's and the Wii they both would become very hot after a couple hours of use and would freeze during gameplay then resulting in me having to allow them to cool down before continueing play. My ps3 sits on 24hrs a day 365 days a year.
