ok as i know windows sucks cock but is convenient to use thats my knowledge of os complete.
now the reason for this thread is:
my version of windows (a hacked sp3) has started to crash due to programs being installed and downloads and shit.
now i know it aint a virus or anything like that just windows needing a format.
now as im sick and tired of having to format a pc every few months i decided to think about other OS's.
now i know mac has a new version out that allows you to install that on a intel pc. which i have.
ive downloaded the iso and burnt that. installed it on a spare HDD i had. now here comes the best part :D.
it worked :O then said it needed to be updated so i done that and violia it longer boots back up.
is there a setting i have set wrong??
and what is the best thing for me to do. (i have no life so i can format that HDD and just add a new instal of windows)
i want to hear from the geek masters in here as to what would be best for me to do with my pc.
the main uses for my pc are:
internet
heavy download/upload (about 30gig a month plus uploads)
use of photoshop and other adobe programs
study (research and development of web pages using mainly html and css)
watching movies/listening to music (music is almost always on and movies are on a few times a day generally)
and gaming
thats about all that i can think i use it for.
now keep in mind i have the version: iAtkos v2.0i of mac
and nothing of windows anymore. the install fucked up once so i destroyed the disc but can easily find a version on a torrent
all help is welcome :D

If you took care of your PC, windows crashing wouldn't be a problem. I've had mine for 3 years and it is fine. I don't suggest putting something weird on your computer, because when that breaks, you have close to zero help.

I think windows is great and you should know how to maintain it by now. Tons of software and programs are built around them. However, you have to take measure to protect you from potential problems. You will have some issues with any OS when you are heavily installing/uninstalling programs.
If you have a cd that you made of your OS, just put it in then hit the windows key and R on your keyboard -> type sfc /scannow -> hit enter
That should replace the corrupted system files
Might I suggest 2 programs from one company that will keep you running better
1) CCleaner
2) Defraggler
you probably heard of CCleaner but defraggler is great - especially for vista users - as vista's defrag has basically no GUI. The best part about this program is that you can defrag only fragmented files instead of the whole drive - which if you wanted to you could defrag the whole drive - but why do that when you can target just the fragmented files within seconds.
===============
The other thing I suggest you do is create restore points -> so that when you get corrupted files -> you can just use the last restore point - you should also delete old restore point by disable/enable system restore every once in a while - that will remove all old restore points and create a new one.
Corruption can occur often from installing/uninstalling a lot of programs. I had my repository go corrupt after testing out a few different firewall programs that said they had become vista compatible - I don't recommend a program without trying it on a test machine. The problem with this is the repository controls the security center and many other features. Unfortunately it happens sometimes even when you do nothing wrong.
You can back your repository up as well by going to control panel - admin tools - computer management - right click WMI control -> properties -> backup or restore from here

already have both programs lol.
they came with the hack version of windows i have.
and i would put the windows disc back in but it seems to off stopped working :S
tried to install it on a mates pc for him and it came up with an error about some files missing :S
and i think ill go find a new version and leave windows on for now.
and i had system restore disabled for some reason :S

Here is how you can make your life a bit easier.. Install Windows.. Install all your drivers and all windows patches and updates..
STOP HERE
Find a good disk image software and make an image of you machine right now.. Back it up to DVD or on another hard drive...
Now if your machine goes loopy in the future.. Pop in recovery disk.. Load in image and your back up and running in no time..

I agree - just google slipstream XP.
You can also install the Microsoft recovery console to give a recovery option through the F8 menu. I use this when removing malware in case something goes wrong during cleaning.

i always get kinda confused when ppl complain about windows and blame it... i have never had a problem with Windows 95, 98, 2000 pro, xp or Vista... and im damn pleased with Vista and all the updates... and i have never hated apple OS's they just dont fit to my likings...
i agree with Dy and Red, just make sure to get the image to dvd and even that F8 load feature which is great... if you have HP it should be alrdy built in...

:roflmao:
sorry but no doubt, seen it hundreds of times
and about the Mac Os on Intel platform, Apple has redesigned their OS to run on intel chips, but it doesn't mean you can just install it in any desktop, the OS comes with an approved list of NB cores and hardware that the OS supports, doing that actually a voids the warranty of the OS, doesn't mean it cant be done look for torrents of cracked 10.5.5 leopard, those already have a lot of updated files needed to port the OS over, but you will have a challenge getting all your peripherals running
a few things I always have is WinPatrol
a distro of the latest DirectX for reinstall
and a good AV
all the rest is great advice as well
now please dont use Starforce CD protection level 3 hardware drivers to hack me..lol

i ended up sticking with windows and it crashed a few times since then but i isolated the problem pretty fast and fixed it.
i am looking to format again but thats solely for the purpose of it is saying i am using an illegal copy of windows. which hurts my restarting and the fact i cant change my desktop.
i have the version i am going to use lol.
i ended up upgrading my HDD's aswell. i have a 200gig base HDD now with windows installed on that and a 150gig HDD as backup. annnnd i filled em both lol. i just burnt over 100gig of movies off of em and am slowly splitting up the other 130gig of tv shows that i have left lol. once that is all done THEN i shall re-install windows. buuut with how long it takes me to get around to doing it might be done next year lol.

Linux is good ... but NOT for gaming.
Yeah you can run a "virtual machine", but for gaming you have only 2 real options - Vista or XP. :)
