The RAM is limited to 3GB on XP. It only shows that and I don't believe you can get it to show more. 64bit-Vista does show and use 4 GB of RAM. It also does something else cool like only use as much RAM as it needs. Someone else can give you details on it. All I'm trying to say is that you didn't do anything wrong with that.

actually thats both right and wrong...a simple bios upgrade might fix that issue.

Cj u need to run Belarc Advisor - Free Personal PC Audit (http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html) and pm me the results so i can do a quick check on that!

Ok well think of it this way, a motherboard is made and sold, new hardware comes out and is not fully compatible.

A bios upgrade might allow that non compatibility to now work.

now his details are as follows.

M2N68-AM Rev X.0x

the problem here is the Rev number is missing...so CJ can you let me know what it actually is? If you need me to tell you how to check that let me know.

SO going here: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. (http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=149&l3=642&l4=0&model=2474&modelmenu=1)

clicking download on the left.

and then selecting the xp version and so on u see the avalible bios upgrades and what they do.

http://support.asus.com/images/asus_download_arrow002.gif Version 0313
http://support.asus.com/images/asus_download_arrow002.gif Description M2N68-AM BIOS 0313.
First release.

Version 0317 http://support.asus.com/images/asus_download_arrow002.gif Description M2N68-AM BIOS 0317
1. Add C1E support.
2. Fix the system may halt and give warning beeps when no VGA card is installed.

Version 0319 http://support.asus.com/images/asus_download_arrow002.gif Description M2N68-AM BIOS version 0319.
1. Fix SLP1.0 function fail.
2. Fix there is not ECC information at POST while use AM2 Plus CPU and ECC memory on DIMM channel B.
3. Fix system with AM2 CPU might halt upon resuming from S3 status.

now u see on version 0319 fix number 2 is in relation to ram not showing right, and thus might fix his error with the ram.

I know you have done some windows updates and this problem might be fixed but check something for me.

Goto windows update, do not click Express, click custom!

Let it check for updates.

On the left where it says select by type, check the hardware tab and see if anything is avalible!

Also on the ASUSTeK site ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support- (http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=M2N68-AM)

there is a http://support.asus.com/images/asus_download_arrow002.gif Version 67.8.0.0

http://support.asus.com/images/asus_download_arrow002.gif Description NVIDIA nForce Chipset Driver V67.8.0.0 for Windows XP/XP 64bit/Vista 32bit/Vista 64bit.

Ok yes you are actually right....i forget there is a number of issues here.

RAM, Virtual Memory, Pagefile and all that stuff (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;555223)

Here's a list of how much RAM the various Windows versions and editions support (as of Nov 2004):

Windows NT 4.0: 4 GB
Windows 2000 Professional: 4 GB
Windows 2000 Standard Server: 4 GB
Windows 2000 Advanced Server: 8GB
Windows 2000 Datacenter Server: 32GB
Windows XP Home Edition: 3.2GB
Windows XP Professional: 4 GB
Windows Server 2003 Web Edition: 2 GB
Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition: 4 GB
Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition: 32 GB
Windows Server 2003 Datacenter Edition: 64 GB
Windows XP 64 bit supports upto 128 GB ram

Because i got 64 bit i forget this stuff eek.

Basically yeh, if its home edition which CJ is actually running then yes he is limited to 3.2GB.

Lesson of the day, make sure your new pc is 64 bit standard and your copy of windows is pro and 64bit standard.
