View Full Version : Premium Accounts now Free, OMG NO FAIR IWANTAREFUNDDAMNIT
Jacx
24th January 2009, 05:13 PM
So the day come and now its official that we are now offering premium accounts for free.
At some point in the future, all accounts will have to be via premium account.
So for those that in the past who had the benefit of a premium becuase they donated to the costs of the server so others could play for free we thank you!
Because its now free, those that wish to claim a rebate on the donation may claim codes upto equal value.
To do this from Monday Jan 26th you can email dopewarsonline@yahoo.com
You will be required to provide the following info.
Handle Name:
Handle Password:
Email address linked to premium:
Amount of codes requested, you can request up to $30 worth of codes. All codes will be in increments of $10.
Relative questions: I will add questions and answers on this thread as we go along as im not sure what your all gonna hit me with :S
Question:
I did not buy my premium, it was given to me, can I still claim the codes?
Answer:
No, premium accounts are not supposed to be transferable, if you was lucky enough that someone donated towards the servers with the purchase of a premium account who then gave it to you only they can claim the refund, and of course what they do with those codes is up to them.
You will be required to provide the following info.
Handle Name:
Handle Password:
does that mean your premmie login info?
Yes but with email address registered with the account included.
good point thats hell of alot of access. who will be doing the refunds jacx???
certain admin i dont want anywhere near my prem lol
Only I will be issuing the refunds using information already issued to me.
hey i paid $40 :(
How the hell did you manage that...its a fixed price :S
do you mean sunday the 25th or monday the 26th?
Fixed, 26th.
Emailed question:- Why are you bothering to offer amount up to $30?
Basically the premium setup was another way of funding the cost of servers, so for some people its just a way to support the site and thus some people are choosing not to claim codes.
1) Is there a closing date?
Currently there is no set closing date but that might get changed in the distant future!
2) Premium accounts were always advertised as an open-ended service. A one-off fee allowed users to use this service for life-time. Should there be any premium services in the future (whatever those might be), will the users who paid for this promise be entitled to any potentially upcoming premium offers without any additional charges? Also, would they waive this privilege if they claimed a refund in donation codes?
Anyone that would say claim the codes would loose entitlement to a new service that could be potentially offered in the future, however seeing as nothing is currently planned, I will leave that to someone else to call on when the time comes!
3) Why are people that purchased their premium account in V1 days excluded?
Where in this first post did I say that? ... Yes its something i might of said in a accusations, insults and whining thread but thats becuase it was there where i can express my view in a "less democratic way".
So in answer, if you paid for the premium in v1, you may claim the codes if you wish, if you won the premium as a prize (and yes im trying to find that list), don't bother trying to claim.
Why say it in AIW anyway? becuase for someone to use a product for 3-4 years and then to claim the codes after having the benifit all this time, is frankly quite weak, however thats my view and not that of the company!
4) Will people who paid for their premium account with codes be entitled to request a refund in codes?
Yes
ya i am on tim's side for this one
what difference does it make when we bought the preemie accs... because i am an old school vet and i bought mine in V1 days i am suddenly not able to get them now?
See above, it does not make any difference...ish!
I agree with ridge - keep my 20dollars.
Although if you are going to hand out codes it would only be fair to give them to V1 and V2 premie holders.
I say just dont give anyone currently holding premies anything and open up new premiums accounts to anyone as you see fit and put it down to deflation:-)
Thank you for your donation sir, however as for future premiums there are no plans currently so if I am still in this position then, I shall have to work that out!
I think only people that have paid for a premmie in say, the last 6 months should be able to claim a refund/code.
I've had one for over 3 years and I feel I've well and truely got my moneys worth.
Anyone that claims a code that's had the premmie for over 1 year is a tight cunt and should take a look in the mirror.
Quoted for the fact I cannot say it...muhahhaha, and thanks for the donation sir, glad it was of use!
:haha: am i glad i not got your job jacx.cant be easy answering all these questions and getting shafted by at least 1-2 people for every decision you make.
keep up the good work mate
Thank you!

One last thing anyone that gets a refund code is a bitch (I know not aiw but fuckit)

Except that the codes do cost money. You are now getting something for free that you would normally be paying cash for (you know, the exact claim that you're using to state that you're entitled to a refund in the first place.) That would be money out of the OT pocketbook by any business model's point of view.

And if someone donated every month and also got those codes i'm sure they would use the codes and still donate as they usually would :S

They don't cost money to create (unless there's a miniscule cost in processing.) The cost involved is an opportunity cost, which is as real of an economic loss for a business as any. I can either give you a code worth $20 for free, or sell it to you for $20. I choose to give it to you for free. I've just lost a potential $20 in revenue.
That's how the codes cost money for OT.

If you had an endless supply of water and charged $1 for a drink but then decided 1 day to give a few loyal customers a free drink.......
What have you lost, the water costs you nothing and is of infinite quantity.
People will always be thirsty and come back to pay for more.

You think that I'm arguing a different point than what I'm really arguing against.
Your initial point was that "codes don't cost money." I disagreed with that based on the fact that the codes which could be bringing revenue are now being given out. That's revenue taken away from OT.
Let's take your example. The person selling water is still out a few dollars that he could have obtained should he continue to have sold water and never gave out the freebies to the loyal customers. That is a cost to him as it does reduce the revenue he would have otherwise had. That was my argument against the "codes are free" statement.
The point that you're arguing is that overall for OT it would be better to absorb that cost and give the freebies as a show of goodwill. That is a different point all together, and one that I don't disagree with (to a point - I think if you used premium acct advantages for years, you are being a little bit scrooge-like. That's just opinion though.)

KS is spot on and I'm glad someone else said it before I got the chance to. These free codes will absoulety cost OT money.
Let's say 20 people that usually donate use these codes instead (remeber, only one donation is allowed per account regardless of value) then there's $400 lost potential revenue, say those people usually donate $40, then there's $800 lost pontential revenue in one month. For a company that works off bare bones to begin with that's a massive loss.
We get to play this game FREE, 90%(estimate) of internet games are subscription. People pay, what, $30 a month to play WoW? I know this is a text based game but the same rules apply. Why shouldn't OT make a subscription fee of $5 a month for use of there resources?
Instead of bitching about people now getting premmies free you should be thanking Rit and the OT staff for giving us such a great game FREE.
In any case this isn't a huge leap in service provision for a company to drop a cost of said service. It happens all the time, the old becomes free, the new paid. Sure Jacx has stated that there isn't any new content in the works but that's right now, six months down the track who knows.
So, for christ sake, don't bother admin with these stupid claims of a code, thank them for the service in the first place.

What him and KS have sail!!!
Also If you do claim a code and a new premie is released you will have to pay for that which means now you have payed twice for premies and only got some donation codes :moon:
Where as I am proud to say I have had my premie for years and even though I dont stock 40+ accounts in it each month I have a very simple layout of my games with little effort to login to each. Is it worth $20/$30? I think so...
Also by me not asking for a foolish $20 code I have a chance at having any new type of premie for free so suck my dick bitches (I know again not AIW but :moon: )
