i have taken the cat5 cable from the port to the WAN slot on the router then another from the 1 slot on the back of the router to the modem, which is what the install your router thing said to do
It says im connected to the network on the other computer and it says im connected down here, but the internet is not being shared, it dosent even connect on the base computer

when your connected whats your ip do in the command promt ipconfig /all and
under the connection your useing what is the ip
it could be an ip problem casue i know im haveing one right now with my wireless im showing 169.254.1.123 and it shouldnt be like that it should be 192.168.1.XXX something like that
u can access the linksys with 192.168.1.1 in any browser and if everything is default it will be linksys....password admin

Do you have the instructions still for the linksys as IMO this is the best router.
You will also need wireless desktop cards and PCMIA cards for any laptops.
linksys is low-end still

ok, since this is a wireless networking thread...i have a question as well. My mom bought a belkin wireless router. She has this hooked to her computer and to the DSL. I have a belkin wireless card (USB). and my stepdad connects to it as well with his laptop, but i dont remember his card, not important anyways. Well, no matter how hard i have tried, i cant get the ecryption to work with BOTH the laptop and my computer, so my mom opted to leave it unprotected. now we have some other computers connecting sometimes.....i want to know if there is a program or some other way to boot them off of our network as there is not this option in the router page

try this make sure you have both wireless computer close to the router and set them up both at the same time....make sure the eyncription type is the same wether it be a wep...(which will slow your computer down too ) ...wap....or wap2....then with wap if its tkip or aes ....or a mixture

I was also going to recommend the MAC filter. I like it because it doesn't slow machines down but keeps people out of your network. They will be able to connect but won't be able to do anything.

yea, i tried to get the WEP encryptin on, and it works fine on my computer, but for some reason, my stepdads laptop wont do it...i set up the EXACT same password and everything, mine works fine, my moms works fine, his connects to the network, but he cant use the internet.... but the MAC filtering seems to be working though....

TRY USING THE WAP ONE OR USE THE MAC ADDRESS LIKE DY AND SMOKE SAIS
ANOTHER QUESTION ABOUT MAC ADDRESS...." MAC BINDING" THATS BINDING AN IP ADDRESS TO A MAC ADDRESS RIGHT ????
Dymond
29th July 2006, 05:41 AM
YES...I like static IPs so I bound an IP to each MAC so I know my machines will always have the same IP while using DHCP.
his connects to the network, but he cant use the internet.... but the MAC filtering seems to be working though....
I'm curious about this though..if WEP wasn't working he would not even be on the network..I'm wondering if the PC has an odd gateway number in it
