You're going to want to look at a car with reliability, and low gas consumtion. I know civics tend to be reliable, and have very low gas consumption. Imports can be trouble when looking at parts that need to be ordered in though, as for taking weeks to get the RIGHT part. Im not too familiar with European car companies, but for what you want, I'm thinking used might be the way to go. Be sure to get a report on the car, you never know what it's been through. Good luck with having your first car, and dont do something stupid.

if u go honda, u might aswell get a brand new one because resell value is not much less than a new car. Their are plenty of cars for less then 7k that are a good buy. I got a 2000 eclipse rs for $4200 and that would leave u with almost 3k to upgrade stuff. i have alot more than that in upgrades though, rims alone were $2400.

mmm, first car. Go for a Peugeot 306 D Turbo. They are economical but you would never guess they were deisel. They are fast and have plenty of poke due to the turbo.
The engine they have are the new state of the art deisel engines and are the bee's knee's, closer to a petrol engine performance than any other.
You can pick em up in good nick and pretty cheap... around £5K. Main plus point is they are only insurance group 5 which is great for first time drivers.
(I had one of these so CAN recommend it)

£5K 2nd hand mate.
Punto's are shit.
Get the 306 D Turbo then spend the extra cash on spray painting (colour coordinated) door handles and wing mirror's and skirts (buy the skirts if it doesnt already have them as it looks much better with) Also spend some cash on a set of alloys (get the peugeot GT6 ones, they look kick ass on it)
All this should cost you around £1500 max
If you do this you'll have a group 5 ins vehicle (and yes insurance groups do make a difference) which looks and performs like something much better. Plus they hold their value quite well!
(it wont looked pimped out like some boy racer either, it will just look sporty, you dont wanna look like a chav mate!)
I'm gonna go find you a good deal. BRB.....
EDIT:
okay mate. They are even cheaper than I thought... check this out

Hill House Hammond are good with younger drivers or anyone high risk. They should be in yellow pages.
They are a broker but will find you a good deal.
P.S. there are loads of these kinds of deals knocking about, check out autotrader. They are also on line regionally.
If you were willing to pay more on insurance go for a Peugeot 306 GTi 6.

skyline? pfft if you want a muscle car go american not japanese
first off there is no more american muscle any new muscle is what im getting at all the good amreican cars are mostly old minus the 5.0 mustang up to the early 90's but as far as 95 and recent the only good fast cars have been imports....the best american car out there now would have to be a cobra supercharged and a sti would still beat that

the 2009 camaro is going to be a force to reckon with though, it will pretty much be the Z06 with a camaro body. 21 inch rims on the front and 22's on the back, and the inside is sweet reminds me of riding in my dad's camaro's when i was younger.

Well, next year we will have an all new Dodge Challenger as well. It is the hottest looking car to come out in the states since the Viper (IMO). It'll have the Hemi in it, and I'll bet they'll come out with a wicked SRT version of it. I'm saving for one right now. I WILL OWN ONE!!! I can't wait. Also, Dodge does offer SRT versions of many of their vehicles. A cheap little thing that's pretty impressive considerng its roots is the SRT Neon. Other SRT models include the 300 C, if the Challenger wasn't coming out my money would be being saved for that car, the SRT Ram with the Viper engine in it, and of course the SRT Viper. All of which produce lots of power, and I would say qualify as modern "Muscle Cars". We may never see a run like we had in the sixties again, I know I can barely afford the gas for my Fury with a 440 in it. 12 miles per gallon is the best mileage I've ever recorded! But, I think with Chrysler working hard to bring back some style into their lineup and court the muscle car generation, many of our fathers/mothers, and other companies following suit, we should see some pretty sweet cars come out in the nex few years. The new Camaro is nice, and I also like the new look Mustang. I hope the chodes running the big "American" auto companies don't choke again and throw out the new designs that are starting to pop up. I'm liking the way they are heading now, but they always seem to choke! Here's the new Challenger!

Kurtis, you are correct. My list was not in order of appearance, it was just a list of some of the different SRT packages offered.
