Australia, it does snow here for a month or so, but that's over 4 hrs away from me, inland. We're mostly coast dwellers, so its watersports, in the ocean and on lakes and rivers. I went wakeboarding/ski-tubing last month...don't know if I would be keen to try it on snow...although it still hurts when you come off on water if you're going fast enough ;)

Skiing for speed, but for general coolness and enjoyability, it has to be boarding, plus with the invention of mp3 players and the addition of a joint or two at the top of the mountain, there really is nothing better.

Cant afford one of those hols this year unfortunately :( am gutted

snowboarding ceased to be "cool" at some point in the 90s, stop kidding yourselves............ everything you mentioned jay can be done on skis and you dont have to unclip at every lift or whenever the terrain gets even slightly flat......... i concede that your boots are more comfy and you can get through powder more easily but thats it!

all that being, i would like to learn to snowboard in the summer (at the indoor snowdome)....... so maybe i'll come back here after that!

which snowdome swissy? :)

castleford. ive been before skiing but its largely pointless as you can only get enough speed to put about 3 turns in before youre at the bottom.... but i figure its fine to learn on and they do "snow-board in a day" sessions..... im hoping they will be quieter (and cheaper??) in the summer..... plus it will be funny to go from summer weather (which im convinced we're going to get this summer) into snow :)
i think building (unless the credit crunch has hit it) a new snowdome near london somewhere that will be the biggest in europe, which might be worth a look.... also havent checked out the one in manchester or glasgow yet, ive done tamworth, castleford and milton keynes though....

i live in sheffield these days, and have been considering buying a 2nd cheap board off ebay to go to castleford for the freestyle evenings every now and then.

as for the big snowdome that is gonna be built near ipswich :)

aaaah over there, bit of a trek from here but im sure i'll pop in and check it out if im passing!
is the artificial snow slope in sheffield still going?? i had a few lessons there when i was at school - skiing on pan scourers really doesnt mimic the real thing at all!!

thats what all geeky skiers say :bleh:

lol, you know me too well - i am a complete science geek afterall!!

Skiing, purely because of the bollox it takes to be a down hill racer

Yeah the ski village is open, once i get my boots back up here i will be going every fortnight or so i reckon. its a bit expensive, and nothing like the real thing, but its better than nothing! i can just hit the big jump repeatedly :)
