View Full Version : Please help me bury my brother...

So I was on my way to a local convenient store yesterday to pick up some smokes and beer, and there were 6 younger black kids holding up signs saying "please help me bury my brother". The mother was on one side holding a sign up that sad "please help me bury my son". They were standing on all four corners of the block. I'm still not too sure how I feel about this one as my initial response was sympathetic, but then turned to a bit of anger. The mother had 6 more kids out there all under the age of 15. I understand that she probably grew up in an environment that's less than what most would consider lower to middle class. She probably didn't have access to things like birth control. I feel for her family, but I also got to thinking that maybe a bit of self control, and learning to keep her legs shut may have saved her a bit of heartache in the first place. I don't really feel the need to say I'm not a rascist, but some may look at it that way. Until the cycle of poverty is broken, I feel things like this will continue here. My final thoughts on the matter...I wanted to go to the nearest hardware store, and return to the convenience store and hand the mother a shovel...

Sounds like a scam or just trying to get sympathy money for something else. With that many kids, she must be getting a healthy looking check each month from Joe taxpayer. Should of went to the drug store and got her a box of condoms.

my mother had 6 of us by the time she was 21. The last 3 were adopted out. She knew she couldnt care for us all. We dont begrudge her adopting us out. She did the right thing.

The US needs more African American to continue the trend of the cry of "slavery" and "The Man" holding us down a little later on. ;)
Don't begrudge those poor souls of their God given right to blame everyone else for their own potential failures.
Leave them alone will ya. ;)

Not being a prick here, but if she knew she couldn't care for her 4th kid, then why would she continue to have kids.
This is what i dont understand with the world these days, yes maybe you come from a harder background then myself....But please surely common sense is amongst us all?

To tell you the truth, that was my first thought. If it so difficult for her...then she is a pretty selfish mother...if she cared at all for her children, why doesnt she give her childerent the opportunity to have a better future. Adoption????

Sounds like a scam to me, they happen quite a bit around here and there is no excuse for not having birth control, you can go to any health clinic and get some free condoms. Scam or lack of common sense is the case here. Do you know how long she has been " asking for help" ? or was it just a one time thing?

Here in St Paul there are quite a few beggers and homeless people. You get approached quite a bit for smokes money transfers you name it they ask for it. It is very rare that I ever give out anything..... At least not to the pros that is for sure.

i have seen many ppl do that some of them really need it and some really dont... but how do you tell the diff. to be honest you cant. the ones that really need it are not out on the street asking for money, they are at the unemployment office, they are out looking for jobs, there are many ways to get help if its what they really need. i know when i have the need to help ppl i donate to (DW) homeless shelters, St. Judes, all kinds of ppl need help and i promise its not the mother with 4 of her kids and 3 of her sisters kids, and 2 of her boyfriends kids on the corner. i mean come on who would take that many kids out like that unless thats your scam? honestly one would have been enough.
there are far too many ppl out there that do need help to waste our time and money on other ppls mistakes or habbits;)
