Are you backing up to another HDD rather than creating a restore point?

Try looking in 'Start, all programs, accessories, system tools, back up'

There are a number of ways you can back up your HDD. I would suggest backing up to an external HDD.

Also in the system tools folder you can select the option to transfer all files on your PC to another location. e.g. an external HDD.

There's plenty of advice I could offer on this mate but I would suggest reading the manual your PC came with to get a good understanding of what your about to do.

Right i have had a mental block and i need to know what to back my hard drive upto and is it a simple process of copying all the files over by highlighting the folders and copying them to the slave?

Either I misinterpereted your question or you've answered the first part yourself, in which case, yeah just copy your folders to the slave (making sure that you've got 'show hidden files' enabled).

Are we just trying to save some data or make a full backup? If your trying for a full backup you HAVE to either use a backup program OR use an imaging software such as Ghost. The problem is if any file is in use during a backup it will not get backed up. When I do a backup I use Ghost so that I can get a compressed image. Then I use Ghost Explorer to get into the image if I need to extract just a few files. Works like a champ and gets me a much cleaner backup.

Actually Kurtis

Standard MoBo you can do up to 4 hard drives. However some mobos come with two IDE controllers so you could do up to 8.

As for USB, you can buy enclosures. I answered this earlier (was it for you?) and if you google USB Hard Drive Enclosure you'll get a TON of hits. All the do is allow you to put in a regular IDE hard drive in an external case and plug it into your computer through a USB.

right, now i need to save up for ghost as well as i want to back up my entire system.

Check out http://www.partition-saving.com/, should do what you want and it's free, not necessarily the easiest tool to use, but I've done it before (don't ask me for help though, that was ages ago).

He meant rigging one up as in putting a IDE hard drive in a USB enclosure
