i suppose it depends on the mood of the user...
if your using it to insult of be rude then yah it's a stupid fuckin word..
if your just joking around well then no...
like if someone is joking around and calls me, a stupid honkey bitch
that's ok..
but if they are just being rude about it then it's not...
YOU SEE WHAT I AM SAYIN.

Would you like to buy me a camera and I'll go along to "Gorbal-stan" and shout "Pakis" and see what happens? The only thing is. If I get beat within an inch of my life (which will happen if not fully killed) i expect A) a public apology, B) $20 donation every game for as long as I play DW, C) compo courtesy of the daft "Yanks" who because it's not offensive t them take th stance of "it's not offesive lolerskates"

Like steff has already said, paki is classed as a racial slur in the UK, so it looks like it depends where you are from that determines whether it's classed as racist or not.
Here's a couple of wiki entries on the subject...

Paki when used to define someone from pakistan is a relevant and contextual slang that is appropriate under almost any given circumstance.
Paki when used (as is so often the case) in the uk to pigeonhole anyone of indian race / half race is offensive - it's all about context.
However even those with indian heritage who were born in the uk incorrectly adopt phrases like 'proud paki' - which i could easily take offence to knowing they were born in the uk and have no ties other than the generation above them to pakistan (thats even giving them the credit that there parents were actually from pakistan) not just an indian/asian location.
If i use something in a manner not meant to be offensive and someone takes offence to it - who's problem should that be ? i'll tell you now it aint mine...

if im not mistaken, paki comes from pakistany, from pakistan. 'paki' 'stan' literarly means 'clean' 'city'. so basically when you say to someone paki your calling him clean. however its still racist because when people say it its ment as an insult.

i guess i am just ignorant of the slang then...i thought that was a politically correct way to refer to someone from pakistan. just like chinese= someone from china. :dunno:

[EDIT]
Highlight the total ignorance of attempting to push the resposibilities of prejudice mindsets onto words and how it does nothing but harm attempts to actually curb the issue.
Rethink how i'm wording things as some people may be offended.
place it all in a little summary like this to avoid the wrath of the well meaning but different of opinion.
Tripple edited as has been mentioned in another thread is a matter of respect.

The correct word for a person from Pakistan is Pakistani. Here's a link to a Wiki article on Pakistan: http://wikitravel.org/en/Pakistan
When I was in Afghanistan many people made the mistake of calling people there Afghani's. Afghan is the proper word for the people of afghanistan. Afghani is the national currency, Afghan is the race. It's kinda ridiculous to take offense over such things (IMO), but it's the way of the world. Oh well, at least you know now. :)

Saying "I'm going to the Pakis" where I'm from means going to the newsagents or another convenience store because 90% of them are Asian run.

yes it does but that is in a totally different context...you are not saying I am going to the Paki, but instead "Who wants a beer I am going to the Paki"..

ok in this same relm. Using Cunt is also derogatory in the states, rather insulting to women..As it is INTERNATIONAL community, don't the same rules apply here?? So if you get banned for paki, why not use the same rules to cunt??

You are right, but Paki may not be unacceptable some places. I agree it shouldn't be used as it is also socially unacceptable, the same applies to cunt here in the states, it is never a word uttered in public as the connotation is just horrible! Might not be in the UK, Scotland, Europe in general but it is here!

I think that it all depends on context. Offensive would be "you are a stupid/fat/ugly/damn *(insert ethnic identifier here)* twat"
I say "going to the Paki's" (corner shop), "do you want owt from the Chinkies/Indians" (take away), I certainly don't intend to cause offence.
There were news reports this w/end that a goalie (Rangers i think) in Scotland was cautioned by police for "making the sign of the cross" towards opposing teams fans who might be offended by this. How nuts is that?

Someone in the crowd reported the goalie to the police for inciting a riot. But back to the 'Paki' thing; there is a comedian in England who is from Pakistan (sorry, her name escapes me) but she often says the word 'Paki'. Her reason being that the more a word is said the less meaning/offence it has and it gradually becomes part of everyday life. I don't know why this debate started but why not just think, 5 secs, before posting something that might offend someone. Personally, im not easily offended, but i realise that other people might be.:TY:
