i've decided to move my remarks regarding Newbie here to the accusations and insults section since the thread has become controversy.

In vietnam we had casualties in the range of 50,000, the communists were up around 2 million mark so yes I would say it was successful.

I'm assuming you were talking about jessica lynch who was part of the 507th ordnance maintenance company...not infantry. She did not take on "half the iraqi army"...her unit was ambushed and most of the men were killed but she was captured and brought to an iraqi hospital where an iraqi lawyer notified the american forces that she was there. US special forces came in and rescued her and brought her home.

Since then production of poppies has increased, the price of Heroin has fallen and the number of attacks on our troops just keeps growing.
Islam is not a country, it's followers are mostly peacefull. A minority imagine that "the west" wants to destroy Islam. And by attacking Iraq and Afghanistan and looking like we want to attack Iran for "thinking about obtaining" Nuclear weapons, "the west" gives the extremists an excuse. Well, I'm gonna get in on this now...
First off, I was in Afghanistan as a humanitarian worker. I worked and lived with three Afghan employees. The head eployee was a general in the Mujahideen. He HATED the Taliban, and I learned a lot from Ayub.

#1. The Taliban were fully supported by Osama Bin Laden. When they came to power, they made people give up their cars for bicycles. Everyone that is, except the Taliban themselves. They drove Toyota pickups, bought by who? That's right, Osama Bin Laden. Osama did not only support the Taliban monetarily, but he was also their army. So for you to say that Afghanistan did not attack the United States, it's just not true. Sure, the general public had nothing to do with it, but do you think I had anything to do with my government going in to Iraq? No. Quite simply, we were attacked by the Afghan Army, when the 9/11 hijackers who were Al Quaeda members, flew the planes into our the WTC/Pentagon. No, they didn't have uniforms, and were not actually organized like we organize our armies in the west, but that is the face of the new enemy.

I see it like this. The popular islamic militia movements taking place right now are very similar to what the Brittish went up against when they fought the Americans in our own war for independence. Battles used to be fought on the battlefield. Everyone lined up and took shots at eachother in a nice orderly fashion. The Americans decided to change things up a bit and started ambushing the Brits. That is exactly what's happening today with groups like Al Quaeda. They are not ordering uniforms and lining up their tanks, they're coming at us in ways that we would never suspect.

#2. Since invading Afghanistan, and then Iraq, we have had 0 attacks on our own US soil. President Bush stated recently that, we took the fight to them, and I'd much rather fight them in their own country then here in the United States. (There's no quotes on that because it is not a direct quote, but a recollection of what he said) I absolutely agree that we MUST take the fight to them.

#3. Yes the CIA trained and equipped Bin Laden YEARS ago. What's the point? At the time Bin Laden was fighting to keep the Russians out. It was in our own best interest to help the Afghan freedom fighters. Then, once the Russians were gone, he stayed on to fight in the civil war.

#4. The majority of Afghans are happy about what took place upon our arrival. That country had not seen peace for close to 75 years. What they have right now is better than anything they had for the past 75 years. One of my employees lost two sons to rockets during the civil war. The rockets hit his home, the boys were not of fighting age, they were like 5 yrs old. During the peak of the fighting, it is said that a rocket was fired into Kabul every thirty seconds! Think about that. Now they have a bomb here and there, and it's still dangerous, but no where near what it was like 10 years ago.

Oh yeah, Osama is actually most likely hiding out somewhere on the border of Pakistan and Afghanistan. I'll have to post some pictures of some of the mountains around Kabul. Those mountains are the beginning of the Himilayas. They rise up out of the ground like nothing of seen outside of the South American Andes. There's a reason that no one has ever come into Afghanistan and conquered the people there. It's one of the most treacherous landscapes I could imagine fighting a war in. I think it is equal to the jungles of Vietnam, only with mountains/caves instead of trees and tunnels. I actually agree with President Clinton on the fact that we need to just take a shit load of troops in there, and start making our way through the hills. Either way, getting Osama isn't going to make the Taliban go away. Maybe at first that would have worked, but I'm positive that they have successors lined up just waiting to take his place when he's dead.

#5. As far as Iraq goes, who knows what the outcome will be there. I can tell you one thing though. People are quick to jump on the Vietnam war. There are a lot of military historians that believe if we would have stuck it out for a few more months, we may have just come out on top. As it is, we did not LOSE that war. We put our tail between our legs and walked away from it. We cannot do that to the Iraqi people! If we all pack up and go home now, there are a shit load of innocent Iraqi's who are going to be victims of ruthless political movements trying to gain power.

Do you know that the day Saddam took power, he walked into the congress, pulled out all of the people that opposed his rule and had them shot in the street? That's how things were done under Saddam. I don't have any intelligence one way or the other to assess whether or not what we did was "right" or "wrong", and unless you are a high ranking military official, I doubt you do either. However, there is no doubt that Saddam did try to obtain WMD throughout the years. Google it and see what you come up with. It's a fact that he used chemical weapons on his own people, and it's also a fact that he at one time had much of the technology necessary to begin producing nuclear weapons. It's also a fact that he hated Israel, and claimed to want to wipe Israel off the map.

Either way, only time will tell whether or not we were "right" or "wrong" for invading Iraq. I honestly don't know. The one thing I do know is that we have not been attacked on our own soil since going into Afghanistan and Iraq. I'm positive that Afghanistan was a good move, but am undecided on Iraq.
