'shadow people' seems too bizarre to be true, yet they have been seen all over the world by every walk of life, and by every civilization since the beginning of time. regardless of their existence, does anybody believe in any other elementals/etheric beings?

Elemental Kingdom
There are four basic elements of nature: fire, air, earth, and water. Within each of the four elements are nature spirits that are the spiritual essence of that element. They are made up of etheric substance that is unique and specific to their particular element. They are living entities oftentimes resembling humans in shape but inhabiting a world of their own.
The beings in the Elemental Kingdom work primarily on the mental plane and are known as "builders of form." Their specialty is translating thought-forms into physical forms by transforming mental patterns into etheric and then physical patterns. Each of them is a specialist in creating some specific form whether it be an electron or interstellar space.
Elementals range in size from smaller than an electron to vaster than galactic space. Like the angels, elemental beings begin their evolution small in size and increase their size as they evolve. The elementals serving on planet Earth materialize whatever they pick up from the thoughts and feelings of mankind. This relationship was intended to facilitate the remanifestation of "heaven on Earth."
They take their orders from the devas.
They do not remain individualized as humans are. These beings are animated by the thought power of the lower angels and so are thought forms of sorts.
They may be etheric thoughts forms, yet they have etheric flesh, blood, and bones. They live, propagate off spring, eat, talk, act, and sleep. They cannot be destroyed by frosser material elements such as fire, air, earth, and water because they are etheric in nature. they are not immortal. When their work is finished they are absorbed back into the ocean of spirit. They do live a very long time--300 to 1,000 years.
They have the power to change their size and appearance almost at will. They cannot, however, change elements.~from crystallinks.com

lol!
there was a time when everybody in the west, from the inuits in the north to the olmecs and aztecs in the south and all tribes in between, believed in and worked in concert with elementals towards spiritual perfection!!!!
now, with western culture, we only believe what we see...and sometimes not even that. western culture is SPIRITUALLY DEAD!!!! as long as you got an ipod, tv, cell-phone, car, and credit card......EVERYTHING ELSE IS TRIVIAL AND MEANINGLESS!!!

The Egyptians, Innuits, Aztecs and any other culture all had their baubles and trinkets. Some of them got buried with millions of dollars worth of gold.

good point D&D... all encounters with spiritual beings arise from druguse I believe. I think that in most shamanistic cultures there were drugs involved? (Or other techniques to alter conciousness)
It is just our mind making things up on its own initiative. To make things less boring or maybe to get messages across to your conscious mind.
It might give you the feeling of being closer to God/being, but if it actually does or not is agnostical question.
But either way I think it's wrong to name them/it elementals, angels etc, and put it in a system/hierarchy. There might be something to it, but I don't think it is things you can ever dissect and get hard facts about, simply because it's subjectively percieved and the testimonials are heavily colored by emotions. Spiritual beings come into the God category; things you can't know the truth or falsehood of. Of course, it can be an interesting hobby to map out and describe the phenomena, but I believe you can just as well go read a good sci-fi novel. (If it gives you the same insight that is.. People are different, we find insight in different things, none more correct than others imho)
Bottom line: using a lot of time on contemplating ghosts etc is an ineffective use of time and energy imho. There are other ways to use that energy, and they don't have to be boring, the mind and the human condition is still mysterious and exiting, even without magical beings surrounding us. By believing in extradimensional beings influencing you you give away control and responsibility of yourself and your actions, and thats the first alarm clock ringing for me when I encounter subjects like these.
Concerning their visibility: These beings is seen in the brink of your eye right? What if it is just the black/white light sensitive nervecells that lie in the periphery of your retina playing tricks on you.. They take longer to adjust to light and have longer way to send messages to the brain, and the delay combined with lower visual ability can distort the messages..?

yes, there are cultures that use mescaline, peyote, mushrooms, and other psychadelic drugs to achieve 'awareness'. I will remind you that these were spiritual-tonics back in the day. it has only been recently that they've been listed as 'drugs'. and by who? WHITEY OF COURSE!!!
jim morrison was very aware of other beings who shared our time-space. aldous huxley has some very interesting things he's seen and wrote about! But, the number1 proof for me is from the nay-sayers who survive a Near-Death Experience. nearly all NDE'ers report seeing 'beings of light', 'angels', 'guardians', 'watchers', etc.!!! these people are non-refutable!

Right - just explain this... Someone comes home from work for two weeks straight and every day something different has been switched on.
ie: Music blaring far louder than the home owner ever set it. Next day, repeated.
Fishtank light turned off, then on.
This person would not lie, there's no bloody point. So.. explain it?

ghosts are real too but they ain't etheric beings, they are disembodied spirits.
an etheric being has never incarnated in our world/plane!

Near death experiences: It can be produced by applying pressure to a part of your brain, just above your ear, near the temple, and give rise to the parting-with-body-sensation.
Most religious experiences can be explained by biology. But what causes them I'm not so sure of though

Ya know w/o giving too much validation to Thomas I do want to say that quantum physics can explain much what Thomas says. When you come to understand that everything is just energy, its easy to see how such objects could exist. Who is to say that parallel worlds like our don't exist?, Just vibrating at a different frequency and wavelength than we are? Honestly Quantum physics actually asks more questions than it answered because if you look at their answers of what energy is and compare it to what theologians say god is..The parallels are spooky.
