i am putting this is serious discussion because it really is a serious topic. i love to knit. everywhere i go, i have my knitting with me. always some project or other. about 5 years ago i found a new way to get away with knitting at work. i donate hats to the Sutter Cancer Center (i work for a Sutter Hospital) as i am sure you all know, cancer patients tend to lose their hair. most store bought hats can cause irritation to this newly bald skin. i found a certain type of yarn that so far no one has had a bad reaction to. i recruited family and friends to help out and we started donating the hats to the cancer center.
as it is starting to get colder, i try to get a extra few hats in. i am wondering if you knit, know someone who does, or otherwise want to get involved. a few years ago the total hat given out was over 3000!!! i have lost 2 aunts to cancer and i am sure that almost everyone has been touched somewhere in thier lives by a friend or family member who has had cancer. below is a link. and no that is not me in the pic :)

Handmade knitted and crocheted hats are available at no cost to patients undergoing chemotherapy treatments. If you or someone you know is a chemotherapy patient, visit the Sutter Resource Library and pick out a hat.
The Library is at 2800 L Street, 6th Floor of the Sutter Cancer Center. You do not have to be getting treatment at a Sutter facility to receive one of our hats."
