Dude, I've SEEN the wall here. It's 10 feet and does nothing to stop illegal immigration. People climb it in broad daylight. This is the same wall they plan to extend across the entire border. A 10-foot wall is not going to help when you only have about one Border Patrol agent per 25 miles of wall. Hire more agents and pay them more money.

It's a nice thought, but all it will do is help Wal-Mart sell more 11-foot ladders.

Maiji is right. Stated on yahoo in the article on yahoo. It was mainly for the pre-election Republicans to put on their platform to show that we are being 'tough' on illegal immigration.

I too agree. The wall will not do that much to help. It may cut down some illegals, but there will still be people climbing over it, and the drug lords will continue to tunnel under it to get their drugs in.

The funny thing is, I don't know if you've ever seen any film on Area 51 in Nevada, but they have quite a setup there. There are sensors in the ground that alert the security anytime someone goes past a certain point, and they are on you like flies on shit within minutes. If we were really serious about stopping the flow of immigrants, I think it will require not only more guards, but a similar system to the one at Area 51. Oh well, I guess it's worth a shot, and for all of you social program freaks, this is a great social program!;) If nothing else, it oughta put a bunch of people to work.

Well, if that's the case, than I'm all for it. Isn't it amazing how people's political views can get in the way of the full truth? I'm out of the country, and kind of out of the loop as far as any of that news goes, but if they're going to be taking all of those steps, then it will be money well spent. While I agree that there is no way to stop all of the illegal immigration, taking those steps should help to drastically reduce the numbers, if utilized properly...

it's not a continuous fence either, seems pretty easy to just go around unless you're trying to get into arizona.

alot of immigrants get here through much more difficult means. a Cuban swim to florida at least once a month, and that's not counting however many get caught in the gulf stream and don't make it to florida

Good Map, I bet in Texas where there is no fence, it is easy to cross the Rio. Where there isn't, is probably a really wide swim across the fast flowing river.
