What brought you to DW in the first place?

I stumbled across the DopeWars thread on the SomethingAwful forums in March 2005. It looked like everyone was having a lot of fun so I joined up at the next reset.


What was your original name in the game?

anti-duck was my original in-game name. I did pretty well with it so I decided to use it on the forums too.


“Anti-Duck" How did you get the name?

It's the last of a long line of online names, each slightly different from the last. It's completely meaningless but it's unique so I like it.


What was your best finish in the game?

I mostly play A games, there I've played 22 worth accounts for 5 overall wins and 8 top 10's.

I've only played B games a couple of times, I've won a room and been in a gold medal cartel but there's no particularly good scores.


Do you prefer A, B, or C games?

Definitely A games. They're generally very close so it's the cartel that puts in that extra effort and does the little things right that wins.


What would be the perfect DW-Style Game for you?

One room, A game rules, 5 people per cartel with cartel bonuses increased to compensate. In a game like that you could have a dozen cartels with a real chance of winning, it would be great.


What cartel were you in when you started playing DW?

SA:banjo: was my first cartel.


What cartels have you been a part of?

I've played in a few cartels for one round but the only ones I've really been involved with for any legth of time are SA:banjo: and The Legitimate Businessmen.


What is your favorite cartel you were ever in?

If I was forced to pick a favourite I'd say TLB, I made a lot of friends there, but SA was a great cartel as well. Those two cartels played the game very differently but they had a common element, a crew of smart, creative and loyal players who placed an emphasis on cartel success over individual scores.


What was your least favorite cartel?

I can't think of a least favourite, but I have played one off rounds for some rather uninspiring cartels. It's always a shock after playing in great cartels to be in one where the people don't get along and don't care about the cartel at all.


What new cartel are you keeping your eye on?

Sinoloa Source have quite a few good players, if they can put it all together they'll become medal contenders.


Have you ever run a cartel, and if so which one(s)?

I was a leader of TLB for 5 months. Helping to run a cartel like that is fun but it's also a huge amount of work so I'm not desperate to do it again any time soon.


What is you favorite DW moment?

There's a few good ones, going out on top with SA:banjo: and TLB was great fun and triple medalling with TLB pretty crazy, but the best one was TLB's first gold medal. Everybody played so well that round and it was great to finally get that gold medal that they deserved. I can neither confirm nor deny reports that I was yelling and jumping around the room after the scores went up.


What is your least favorite DW moment?

Two spring to mind. One was waking up and finding out that SA's information was plastered all over the DopeWars forums. When I first saw that I felt horrible but when I got over it pretty quickly when I realised it was too late for anyone to stop us. The second was TLB's first round in a medal room. We should have won a medal but we were disorganised it cost us. On the plus side that round did force us to get our act together and we never had those problems again.


Who are your friends in the game?

I don't play for many cartels so I haven't had the chance to meet all that many people, mostly it's the boys and girls from TLB. Tim, Eyez, BIATCH, Phuquit, DeMoN, Armed & Hammered, Calienta, Dymond, NaZKYN, deadcert, buckledmac and all the rest. I haven't been on MSN much lately so I don't talk to them as often as I should :(

Also all the people who show up to the shoutbox at night when I need entertainment, I see lots of people bitching about the shoutbox but I like it, I've met a lot of cool people there.


Who are your enemies in the game?

I don't have any. Having enemies on the internet seems pretty dumb to me.


Who adopted you when you were a n00b?

I had to learn things the hard way. I remember in my first round someone suggested that some people might want to try getting lots of junkies and hoarding all their cash so I did that. Apart from that I did my own thing and figured it all out myself.


If you could tell one person in the game to go to hell who would it be and why?

No one, that would be very rude indeed.

I remember that I saw him in a TLB training cartel and had no idea who he was. I did some research and figured out he played for SA. I think it was david who heard me saying "who the devil is that flippin duck and why is he in our cartel for pete's sake?" Fortunately, I wrote him a quite diplomatic PM in order to sort things out. He replied something along the lines of "yes, I've played for SA, but I don't see a problem with that. However, if that isn't fine, I'll leave." Typically michael ... being a real gent, avoiding the fight. Thank god we didn't boot him.

See, now this makes me happy. When myself and Phuquit first ran into each other in this game it was... not pleasant. Phuquit and SA were not the best of friends. When I first asked to join TLB I was half joking, I assumed that Phuquit would veto it right away, but he put our past behind us and gave me a chance. I was really grateful for the opportunity and I worked way too hard that first round to show you that you'd made the right choice.

Anyway, that was all a long time ago and now we're friends. I've got a lot of respect for you as a player and as a person and hopefully we'll be able to meet up next time I find myself in the UK.

Thanks OT, whenever I play junkies I use you as one of my benchmarks, most of the time if you can't get me no one can. I might have been able to avoid the suiciding but my teammates never did and that hurt just as bad so you should be happy. Keep up the gunning dude!

I'm not one for giving out strategies so instead I showed you how to program your own simulator and you used that to come up with your own strats. You put in a lot of work and I was really proud of you when I started seeing you posting big scores. You came close to winning overall the last couple of A games and I'm sure a win is just around the corner for you.

I was thinking of using this time in the spotlight as an opportunity to shout about my vile hate-filled political views but I guess your idea could work too. You're one of the top players in the game, you can score through the roof and you can single handedly destroy a cartel, and a hell of a good guy. We've never had the opportunity to play on the same side, one day we need to fix this.

I'm not always diplomatic, just after that when I first got on the TLB forum I thought to myself "They've been very nice to let you in here, don't rock the boat". I think I lasted about 12 hours before I started telling everyone that their strategies were all wrong.

Tim's a great bloke, I always enjoy our chats on MSN, plotting our next round or just shooting the shit. I've heard about this German drink called Bier, you'll have to teach me all about it when I make it over to your neck of the woods :)
