I went to see their concert, and I am shocked. (I'm not really that much of a fan, but a friend of mine couldn't get his ticket sold to anyone else so I played the helping samaritan and bought it)
They played the last album in their entirety, including the part about how you should give your soul to the lord of the light - I have a small hope that the lyrics are ironic. Did a few classics (but no run to the hills) and that was it. When I saw slayer last week atleast they humuored their fans by playing a lot of oldies mixed in with the new (was fun :D). I don't mean the bands should be like jukeboxes, but come on.. playing the entire album?

I'll give them credit for their "showmanship" though, and also they had some very cool lighting, pictures and "props" on stage (a huge tank popping up from the floor for instance).

But the ticket cost a shitload, the sound was shit, the guards were all idiots with no clue about anything, and they tried to sell me a glass of water for five dollars (I just left the greedy bastard there with the damn glass in his hands).
So Yes.. If I had balls I'd let them all suck them! :@

...I've also decided to boycott big concerts from now on (exept for festivals and special occasions), all you do is stand in line, spend alot of money on expensive beer (and water :|) and you rarely ever see anything unless you're lucky and get a good spot (wich you pay for with your wellbeing - damn it's hot).

[/rant]

Anyone else seen them this time around? Did you enjoy it?

i went to a concert by accident last night, I actually went to Fab 3 to race the go-karts and hit some balls in the batting cage. Some friends and i show up notice all the people standing around out there, and didn't know what was going on at first...the type of people there weren't exactly the type that goes to a go-kart track and batting cage and there is only like 5 pool tables there. well were paying for our tickets and getting suited up to race, i hear some drums being played. :O then i notice the Battle Ball room wasn't running any games, and a bouncer gaurding the door. So i put 2 and 2 togather i figure out there is going to be a concert. I asked the bouncer about the band and how much it costs. 10 bucks for a wristband gets u into the concert, well i see it as a chance to maybe catch a new band coming up, there was about 200 people there. The bands name was twisted lips....so we go race our go-karts. Decided to stick around to listen, it only took 3 songs to figure out that this band sucked. The music was 20x louder than the mics...which from the vocals i was hearing it was a good thing. I just don't see screaming in the mic music.

Smokie... ouch (about your friend), but good that you enjoyed it..
Curly... If you close your ears to dickinsons voice(and lyrics) and just listen to the music, the new album does have a nice progressive side to it.. But it's still an entire album though.
But to make you feel better about going, all the papers and lots of people were thrilled about the concert, so it might just have been me :$ (even smokie liked it)
Jock.. lol.. I know how you feel.. empty wallet, blown out ears and hurting feet.. *hands over free beer*

Aeon and Jay.. Rawr!8o|(a)

It would be strange if I didn't reply in this thread, wouldn't it?
The only time I saw Maiden was 1.5 years ago at the Ozzfest, and they played tracks from their first four albums exclusively, which pissed me off too, because I wanted to hear more variety from them. But overall they put on a great performance, probably dwarfed Black Sabbath who followed them. Eddy on stage was pretty cool too.

As for ticket prices/venue/food it was all up to the Ozzfest organizers, so can't fault Maiden for that - also I got kicked out of the Ozzfest twice before.

Going to see Children of Bodom at Times Square next Sunday with my new girl - should be freaking awesome. I might actually be able to finally get my pics taken in the pit.
