OK I've watched about 4 games so far and here's what we've got:
England vs. Sweden
The world cup was stunned last night as England advanced to the next round with a 2-2 tie against sweden. Ok not stunned but it sounded good. :ice: In the final 5 mins of the game england scored when that one player (Joe something) I believe err wait that time is was Jerard, bounced the ball off his chest right into the net, and it was almost a sure win at a score of 2-1. But..with only 15 seconds left on the clock in the last quarter of the game, The ball kinda bounced off an england player and off a swede, then off the fingertips of the goalie guy, and Yes you guessed it Sweden scores!! *raaaaaawrrr*
So the game goes into the extra time they do at the end (injury time or something) and of course Sweden kept pushing the ball out of bounds and basically killed the 3 mins left. And u got it , the game ended in a Tie. 2-2 England hasn't beaten sweden since 1968, but at least now england doesn't have to play Germany, they get to play Equador in the next round :D

Ok the game I REALLY wanna talk about is the USA vs. Italy eh hem...
The yellow and red cards were flying in this game..
For those of you who dont' know what those are, these cards are handed out if a player commits a foul. Its the referee's discretion as well. If you get 1red or two yellow in one match then you not only get sent off of that game, but are out for one game following also. So they are a no no , especially in the world cup.
Well that brings us to the italy/ usa game :blank:
First Italy scored.. rah rah bah.. So the score was 1-0. USA played pretty good but couldnt' seem to get the ball in the goalie net and then finally.. Italy scored FOR the usa lmao.. I think they call it an Ungoal or something but the italians accidently hit it into Usa's net. Unfortunately that's the only point USA got during the game
One of italy's players elbowed Usa's Mcbride in the face (he even started bleeding) :blank: And so Italy got a red card taking him out of the game, now they are down to 10 players. Then usa got a 2nd yellow card on a guy and they lost him, making both teams have 10 players each. Then!! Usa lost Another guy in a bogus call from the refereee, and now usa is down to 9 men! (that referee should be fired)
Those italian players were funny.. anytime a usa player barely touched them, they'd fall down and roll around. You even thought they might start crying, and it looked like a ploy to get the referee to hand out yellow and red cards.
Both teams offense sucked, defense wasn't too bad, but neither team played that well imo. :no3:
IN the end.. it was a Tie, or draw?? 1-1 both teams advance and tomorrow Usa plays Ghana and Italy plays uhmm.. Czechs i believe

B-O-R-I-N-G *yawn*
One thing liverpool was watching the *ginger haired* man.. cuz he might be bought by them soon oooooOOoohhh
(heard that through a reliable source) hehe
game ended with a score of 0-0
One thing i noticed though, those players on both teams had some good skillz, and there wasn't hardly any yellow cards. Next!
Let's hope ghana and usa is more exciting tonight :D

June 25 England vs. Equador
Halftime Update
Stadium at full capacity, england makes up 97% of the crowd
0 - 0
Game was in 12 mins before I turned it on, Both teams are playing pretty good defense
Only one yellow card so far, when an equador player tripped Gerrard..he thought he got away with it, lol the look on his face when the whistle blew was class :no3: oops
Hargrave (sp?) got kicked in the leg and was still down at halftime.. I think it prolly hurt pretty bad, he looked miserable.
Not alot of action yet.. there was a couple free kicks
One thing I notice about England's team, they don't get all drama queen when someone pushes them, trips them etc.. Yet equador guys have been rolling around on the field quite abit, kinda like italy does :w00t2: Ref's not buying it tho :ice:
be back after game ends :England:
(no draws allowed in knockout games)

England vs. Equador Update Continued...
England wins and moves on to the quarter finals! :w00t2:
End score 1 - 0
2nd half was way more exciting, alot more moving the ball forward
Hargraves was back in, so he wasn't hurt too bad :orign:
The winning goal happened when england's Beckham got to make a free kick @ 59 mins in. That kick was awesome.. it went up over the wall of guys, and kinda curved in to the edge of the goal, equador's goalie didn't stand a chance. :no3:
What i noticed was that England was setting up alot of good plays, but was having some trouble with the final kick into the net. They also were doing well at regaining the ball, as a matter of fact, Equador barely had control of the ball throughout the whole game, they looked pretty desparate after about 80 mins in :Shutit:
England also has a really good goalie, I think he pulled a muscle when he dove for a ball late in the game, but it didnt' stop him. :orign:
One last thing I gotta talk about.. England's Rooney.. geez that guy has skillz. Awesome footwork, and he seems pretty dedicated. LOL when the referee called a foul and rooney stood right in his face for a sec.. he looked so badass. But at the 3rd quarter ish.. when the dogpile happened with rooney, the commentator said "Rooney would run through a brick wall for a scoring opportunity" and I believe it, he's got talent. :orign:
IN the end, England knocked Equador out and advances to the quarter finals!
:fanclub:
** we got to see Beckam barf on the field.. poor guy was hot and dehydrated they said, but I coulda went all day without watching him puke.

Aussie vs. Italy
Arrrghhh! I'm so ticked off right now, but here we go.
Italy won 1 - 0
By 90 mins there was still no score..so the game went into stoppage time *3 mins* In the last 3 seconds, the italians faked a penalty right near their goal, so they got a penalty kick, and totti scored. GRRR that was so bogus and the Italians have faking penalties down to an art, I dont care how Hawt those guys are, Grrr@ them.
Italians got a red card at approx 60 mins in, so they played most of the last half one man short. In all fairness, it shouldn't have been a straight red card, because he wasn't the last man in and it didn't prevent a goal, but ref called it so Materassi was out. No team has scored with a man down in the last 22 matches.. but I guess when u fake a penalty it raises your chances. :Shutit:
In my opinion, Aussie's played an excellent game. They were fit and really good at keeping the ball in their possession. Seemed like the Italians played most of the game defending, but aussies still had a hard time scoring.
Buffon, Italian goalie, made some really good plays.
If the win was based on how well they played.. Aussies shoulda had it. And the fake penalty kick really ticks me off
Italy advances to quarter finals :bye:
**The Italian team are still a bunch of hotties tho :ice:

Argentina vs. Germany: Quarter finals game
Final Score 1 - 1
Penalty Kick phase Germ 4 Arg 2
Germany wins and moves forward to play the winner of the Italy/Ukraine game
Weather was great for the game, mid 60's, nice breeze.
Stadium had about 65,000 german fans
This game was somewhat boring to me, nothing spectacular happened imo. Both teams were equally in control of the ball and in defending their goals. I think Argentina might have played a bit better of a game tho.
One play was exceptional, although it didn't end up as a score. One of Germany's doods rushed in at the 18 yard line , and he bounced the ball off his head, it barely missed the net but was a great play.
There was only one yellow card in the first half, and I don't think any in the
2nd half. At halftime score was still 0 - 0.
In the beginning of the 2nd half, at about 49 mins in... Argentina scores. Nothing spectacular, guy kicks ball into net, score! :w00t2: now it's 1 - 0
Then the next exciting thing happened at 80 mins in, when Germany scored the equalizer with only 10 mins left of the game. The goal was pretty cool, it bounced right off the german guy's head and Bam! went right in. :w00t2:
At 90 mins , score was still tied, so it went into the two 15 min OT rounds.. Still no score after 30 mins. The guys appear tired.
Since it's Quarter finals.. we have to have a winner, no draws allowed. So now we move into the Penalty kick phase. This is where each team is allowed 5 kicks.. with only a goalie defending his domain. Whoever scores the most, wins. Germany goalie was amazing, he seemed to know right where the ball was going, shutting argentina out 2 out of 4 of their kicks. Germany didn't miss one at all, so the game ends when argentina missed theirs. Germany Wins it. Rahhhhhh! :german:
But wait...what's this? Some players from both teams are having a push n shove fest on the field. tsk tsk.. bad sportsmanship :ice: It ended quick enough though.
Halftime report**
I thought i'd pass along that they announced Randy Walker, Northwestern University football coach of Chicago died of a heart attack last night at age 52.
And...
*Italy off field news* Former Juventus player Gianluca Pessotto remained in critical condition after leaping from a building in an apparent suicide attempt.
That's all :bye: Ukraine vs. Italy in an hour :w00t2:

England Vs. Portugal
0 - 0
Portugal wins penalty kick phase
Advances to Semi Finals
Just gonna give a few highlights...
Neither team scored.. had 30 mins of OT then Penalty kick phase.
Early in the game .. about 52 mins in, Beckham went out due to his leg injury (he shed a few tears cuz he had to leave game)
Then Rooney got a straight red card for stepping in a Portugal players crotch  and he was sent out of the game.
England played the rest of the game with one man down. Only team to score with one man down was Italy.
Portugal's player "Petitte" got a 2nd yellow card so he's out next game.
Portugal had scored once, but the offside rule voided the goal.. didn't count.
England's "Lennon" who went in for beckham seems to do a good job.
Seems the commentators are blaming England's coach.. saying he didn't put his players to good use and take advantage of their particular skills *shrug* I don't know if that's true?
That's it really.. Portugal advances
Edit: Also, i have to give kudos to Portugals goalkeeper.. he was spot on.

Thank you guys for the compliments...
I had a request to recap the Germany vs. Italy game so here goes:
Germany vs. Italy
Italy wins 2 - 0 (grrr again, none of my teams are winning) :blank:
The game while unspectacular throughout.. was actually a good game, if that makes sense. Nothing great happened until the end, but I have to admit, both teams played pretty darn good today.
sidenote: Italy got called on 10! offside rules.. and Germany only 2 :no3:
While Im really ticked off at Italy for their winning tactics against the usa and against australia ... they seemed to play straight up today...meaning no fake fall downs and whiney baby rolling around on the ground grabbing themselves in order to get free kicks this time. :D
Those guys all worked hard to score, alot of moving the ball forward, especially in the 2nd half. By the end of 90 mins, the score was 0 - 0. So the game went into the two 15 min OT. As of 29 mins and 11 seconds there was still no score, and we were sure it would go into penalty kick phase...
But then Italy snuck one right into the very edge corner of the goal... making it 1 - 0 . While i sat here thinking there's not enough time for Germany to score the equalizer.. Italy scored again!! I was shocked.. 2 goals in the last minute of the OT phase! :hellno:
The crowd was intense.. Italy fans screaming and celebrating, German fans sat still stunned and silent.
Italy won their game fair and square ... THIS time.
Italy moves on to play the winner of tomorrow nights game (july 5th) between France and Portugal.
I don't even know who I chose to win now.. I dont' like any of the 3 remaining teams really :dunno: If I HAD to choose one, even though they eliminated England, i'd probably say Portugal, they seem like a good fair team.
Happy 4th of July to the Yanks!! :Yanks:

Portugal vs. France
France beat Portugal 1 - 0
Ya know, the game was pretty dull in my opinion.
France scored.. game ended at 90 mins + 4 mins injury time
Simple. :smartass:
At first I wanted Portugal to win, but during the game I realized I was indifferent to who did. The teams I was rooting for have all been eliminated and now it's just a matter of watching the ending of a long, exciting championship of a sport I only took interest in this year. I ended up feeling a sense of "muahahhaa* when France won, cuz Portugal had beaten england out :w00t2:
The extent of my knowledge of soccer was limited to the occasional games of my niece and nephew that I go to, and for the most part it was me taking pics of the kids and cheering them on no matter what was really going on out on the field :ice:
Being engaged to a Brit, especially a livid "footy" fan.. I have been exposed to alot of soccer talk and it sparked my interest. As the tournament progressed I found myself becoming quite addicted to the sport and I think I'll end up a die hard fan of the game , sorry Boo :blushing: lol
I used to be like alot of ppl, thinking soccer was kind of a wussy type game and american football was the "real man's sport". But I've got alot of respect for the soccer players, they run 90 mins straight, no time outs at all. Takes a fit person to be able to do that. And it takes alot of skill and good strategy to score, avoid yellow/red cards, penalties n fouls, the offside rule, etc... that's why alot of games end 0-0, because it's harder than it looks.
Takes a bit of occasional acting too *points at Italy* la la :bye:

Jai Jai...mark me another die hard American fan too! My soccer experience was watching my daughter play and coaching knucklehead 8 year old boys (including my son). However I was hooked from the first game and it gave me a chance to sit my son down with me and let him watch how the big boys play the game. Its funny though because even from 8 year olds to professional soccer some of the concepts remain the same. Move the ball downfield, pass to the open man and get the ball centered for the goal. But it was beautiful to watch all the myriad ways to do this, and the ball handling at this level is phenomonal!! Its hard to keep an 8 and an 11 year old interested for 90+ minutes but they could appreciate the great passes and awesome shots on goal!
Thanx FIFA for a great World Cup.
