Open challenge to all forum members. How nice are you really? Along with the Holidays, should come a time for us to think of others. Although we might not be able to fix all the problems in the world, I challenge you to do one nice thing a day for the month of December. It might be as simple and letting someone in front of you in a long line. Or giving your unused coat to charity. Or doing a little extra around the house to make it easier on others living there. Ok so let me start off 
Dec. 1 I have a friend who has only a few weeks left to live. Lung Cancer. He has 7 children and a wife. His wife has been unable to work as she is taking care of him. So a few of us at work got together and raised about $1200 so far to buy groceries and medicine.
Dec. 2 paid for the person behind me at Starbucks
Dec. 3 helped someone push their broken down car to the side of the road
Dec. 4 got up at 1 am and cleaned the house until about 8 am

been putting my homeless mate up on our sofa. doesn't sound so bad except he's a piss-taking smack head/speed head crashing about in the cellar all night, leaving doors and windows open, smokin smack in full view of people outside coz he's so wasted he doesn't have a clue what he's doing.

the only option is to leave him out in the cold. he can do it. he lived in the woods for 3 months this year.

thing is i'm trying to get him so he leaves the house in the morning and can make full use of the day and find somewhere to live. left to his own devices he usually gets himself together the same time everyone else is settling down for supper. feel sorry for whoever rents him a place - it'll be a shit hole in 2 months.

hopefully he'll get somewhere and start workin towards something more positive. he can do it with help.

oh yeah, he hears voices too and argues with himself. if he doesn't sort his speed habit out soon he'll attack someone again. last time he did it with a bowsaw because he thought they were controlling his mind or some shit. went into the takeaway under his flat and attacked 4 people with it. it escalated over about 3 months an then 'he got a message bnout what he had to do.' he ended up in a high security mental institution for 2 years for that.

it's fuckin hard work just being there for him and it's only been a week.

known him 20 years. ya gotta do this shit from time to time for your mates. after he's one that's my good deeds for Crimbo over. well, i'm a pushover for a sob story so maybe not.

1st - Not much except for saving my oldest from babysitting my youngest two children in between her already busy schedule so my hubby could take me out to try to get me drunk.

2nd - Consoled a grieving friend who lost her daughter and was upset because she had been on a "Toy Run" with her biker friends, and had visited the hospital where her daughter had died.

3rd - Went to the aid of a couple of friends to keep him from going to jail for killing her...raging alcoholic that can't leave him alone when she is drunk.

4th - Drove almost an hour out of town to cut our Christmas tree from the same tree farm we buy from every year. Wonderful old blind man with a chainsaw...nearly frightening. *grin*

Dec. 6 only 2 hours left and i think that i was selfish again today. is there no Christmas cheer to be had this year?

5th - Gave a lady I know a ride home rather than let her walk 10 miles in the cold dark night.

Also encouraged a friend to FINALLY take her nursing exams. ;O)

6th - Supported my mom in her efforts to settle things between her and her sister for the holidays. May not seem like much, but promised to let HER do it for herself instead of interfering as is my instinct in this case.

:@ are you making fun of my slow cleaning? there was a lot of laundry and i reorganized the pantry. sorted out mail, touched up some spots on the carpet. wiped down all the cupboards in the kitchen. and that is all i can remember off hand.

im signed up to serve at a turkey dinner for homeless/poor people this tuesday. its hard work apparently, from what the people who did it last year told me. So thats my deed for the year :)

Today there was a very old lady in front of me in the supermarket. I was the patient student who stood behind her and was very polite and nice to her. I didnt feel like i had helped her out, but i helped her feel more comfortable about taking her time by being understanding and patient.

I've been spending alot of this month, and last month for that matter, councilling my friend about his marriage. He's spent the night on my couch more often than not and I have made dinner for him and his wife on several occasions so he had a reason to make her leave the house and spend time with him. I've offered to go out with her cause she complains she has no friends.

I drove another friend to pick up and drop off a van he was renting to go pick up furniture.

That's all I can think of right now.

This whole month i volunteered to help the Humane Society in my local district, they are to call me when they need me, also bought a Ps3 just so i could give friends a chance to buy one... Took a winter class to help my gf in her studies, will spend christmas away from my own family to spend time with my gf's family cuz they dont like me and it means a lot to her, damn i love that bitch ;)... I bought a special chrsitmas tree to give to my gf early so she could decorate it with me cuz she wanted a tree... Hope to do much much more and most likely will.... but i might forget to post things as i dont really need to show that i am helping others...

12th - Transferred money from MY account into hubby's to keep him from becoming overdrawn.

13th - Counseled a couple of our friends with their marriage issues.

15th - Sent hubby off to help a friend that got stranded a couple of hundred miles out of town...knowing it is a bad idea that these two "boys" hang out together.
