Every time I've tried headphones in my PC headphone socket they never work. They work at my Uni... is there something I'm doing wrong? Must I have ti activate something first. (keep in mind my PC is old :P)

I mean theres a wee hole in the front with a headphone symbol that won't work.
Oh, and a new discovery, if I plug my headphones in the backwhere the speakers should go, they work... but the headphones I have don't stretch to the front :(

it's likely steff that they've never been connected to soundcard - if it's a 'built' pc you 'll likely find the function isnt there and the hole is attatched to nothing - if it was a bought PC theres either a fault - a loose cable, OR it's just an extra 'feature' not available on your model...

Steff..Am I assuming your talking about the Headphone Jack next to the CD-ROM? IF so those don't work unless your actually listening to a CD. Back in the day they were meant to let your CD-ROM act as a CD player while you were working without the need to plug the headphones through the CD Player..

If you're weeing in that hole, I'm not surprised it wont work...
So buy an extension lead for it. I got one, no more problem.

so as i was asking before...the speaker point works, the headphone point at the front dont.
2 options...do what grendel said...its cheap and easy. Or buy some headphones with nice long leads..easy enought to get.
Or open up the pc, check where the front port is, follow the lead and check its plugged into the motherboard or soundcard correctly!

That'll be it, yeah it's next to the CD-ROM drive. Ok, so I've to just get longer headphones. (Y) Cheers all.

Steff..I would go down to your british version of Radio Shack and get a splitter...that way you you can plug in some headphones and keep your comp speakers plugged in,
