So my Dad is going to be getting a new TV for his birthday. 37" is about as big as my mom is going to go so I was advised to get a Sharp 37 LCD.
Anyone gotten a new TV recently, or know people that have one? What kind do they have, and do they like it?

i work with lcd/plasma tvs, the best option is lcd miles more reliable than plasma, and cheaper to fix if they break.
For a 37" the best around are
Toshiba 37WLT66 Flat Panel TV
or
Samsung LE37S73BD
or for better quality and size and my personal favourite
Sony KDL-40W2000 - BRAVIA - LCD TV - 40"

where could I buy it from? I'm looking around at a couple websites, but don't know where to get it. We'd like to pick it up from somewhere.

im struggling to find us dealers as google is mainly bringing up uk based dealers. you may be able to get it shipped from uk if no joy and it is probably the best 37" under $2000

Well I think it has come down to the 37" Sharp and the 40" Sony. Mainly because of the prices at Costco because they are so good.
A 45" Sharp usually $3000 was being sold for $1999. Granted there were none left and it would be too big for the room it was going in :P

sharp are based less than half a mile from my house:O
tbh you shouldnt have any major probs with either of em. If your going to get more than 40" you should go with plasma as it wont pixelate as much as lcd(y)

when upgrading to HDTV, you want to go bigger then a SDTV. not sure how much, but I'm sure you can find some chart online somewhere. I know a 27" SDTV TV was great for my living room, then I bought a 30" HDTV and it was too small.

the difference is p (progressive scan) does every line 60 times a second, the i (interlaced) does 60 passes but only does half the lines on each pass, so it's really only doing 30 frames per second.
