DAVE! I'm getting a "UNLOADABLE_BOOT_DRIVE"

followed by the blue screen of death! Help!

This guy wants $300 to recover the information on my hard drive... is that a good price? It would be cheaper to come to Utah and buy you a drink while you fix it!!!

(is that an option?)

The second drive which is now represented by the blank disk icon - is windows able to do anything with it at all?

ie would you be able to run chkdsk on it?

No, I'm trying to get back important files which were on there, and am trying to work out if reformatting is the only first step. I have a data recovery program which claims to be able to get at files from a accidentaly formatted hard drive, but as this hard drives format has probably only been corrupted I didn't want to resort to that before knowing if it was possible to repair a corrupt format. Plus I thought it might have been possible that it created a new partition with the same drive letter as the old drive so that I am no longer able to see that original drive.

Kent there is some good software out there that can do data recovery. The real key is to not touch the hard drive as much as possible until you can run the recovery program.

Here is the best one that I have used:

Ontrack Easy Recovery Professional

As for you Chris..As long as you get your HD working I won't be offended if someone else does it LOL
