View Full Version : Multis & The Moderators

I've seen a lot of people bitching that Mods don't do anything about multis.

I know how it is feels when you report a player. You click submit or whatever, the report disappears and you never hear anything about it. Sometimes you log on a few hours later and see the player you reported still running around and you say to yourself 'For fucks sake, why aren't these useless mods doing anything about it?'

The answer to that is - if you report a multi, the mods WILL check it out. Sometimes there isn't any mod online for an few hours and the multi gets to fuck up a few games. However, the reports DO get checked and the players will get checked.

The fact is that until the way that multis are dealt with (prevented both before and after the multi account is made) there really isn't much more that the Mods can do. They do not have the powers to stop people making more multis.

If you report a player and a few hours later you see a Mod online and the player is still playing, you have to accept that as far as the Mod can tell, he isn't a multi. I know that it would be nice to have a Mod reply to you and tell you what the status is with a multi report, but unless some sort of automated system was introduced (which would be overkill I think), I would reckon that there are so many multi reports made that there is no way that the Mods can reply individually to every single one. It would just take too long.

If you report a multi and nothing is done about it - wait a few hours. Give the Mods a chance to see the report and deal with it. If you've waited a few hours and there has been a Mod online for a while, you just have to accept that from what the Mods can see he isn't a multi. If you have proof that the player is a multi - ie he admits it on Game Talk (I've seen it) or he's sending messages to you (again, I've seen it) or some aspect of his behaviour is identical to a previous known multi - INCLUDE IT IN YOUR REPORT.

I've never doubted that Mods look into the reports. My complaint is, and always has been, that the people that do it are dealt with too leniently. Banning someone for a couple of hours is pointless.

However, as Tyler told me yesterday, Treadon has stipulated leniency. So I guess he's perfectly happy to have games ruined all the time.

Grendel no one could ever accuse you of being unclear in your communications ;)

It just seemed to me recently that there were a lot of people blaming the mods, and I didn't think that it was justified.

Heh! Gotta keep plugging away, hoping things will change...

People ARE going to blame the Mods, they are the ones that enforce (Or don't, depending on your point of view.) the rules. Cheats shouldn't be allowed to prosper, nor should they be accorded anonymity - cheat and the whole game should know about it.

Fair enough. I'd like to see the rules enforced as stated in the UA, if not more strictly. But the fact remains that the mods DO deal with multis, and the more disruptive ones get their accounts banned permanently.

....is someone who makes 4 feeder accounts in FM as disruptive as someone who busts a team repeatedly with 200+ accounts? In theory yes, but in effect no, IMO.

I'd like to see the same strict treatment of all multis, but the mods are interpreting the rules following Treadon's guidelines, as far as I can see.

I say get a mod for each game or combination of games. Like eagle tends to stay more in the faster games. TD tends to do FM, Lestah is FM as well.

I say get a mod to cover like WW2, BoSA, ACW, KW. One to cover the Empires (exp and ext) and TI/CTC, another 1-2 to deal with the 5 teams since they are so large and yet another to cover FM/ FMBM/ FM R&D.

So in essence TD and Lestah cover FM/ FMBM/ FM R&D, Eagle the Empires and TI/CTC, 2 more for the 5 teams, and 1 more for WW2 and BoSA rotation.

That way you have mods that can see all the games and work on their area instead of being spread thin. This also can cover the issue that there are times where there are no mods. Personally I think it could work out well.

The mods are the ones promoting multies. They won't let you play by the rules, and force people to create new nics to play.

If no one cares, I will volunteer for 5 team Beginners/ and or pro. I have been around for awhile, and these are the only games I am in. If not, then no worries. I just thought I would volunteer, since I think my track record has been good. Anyways, I remember reading that if you volunteer to be a mod, you won't get picked, so maybe this is a pointless post. I guess we will see.

you guys all realize that some things you can't control trying to get multies off of an internet game is like trying to control the weather mqaybe someday we will be able to do it and we can try to do it but our attempts are feeble and we just have to deal with it

that's my 2 cents

People that create multiple accounts spew themselves into every game usually so if you have 5 people watching seperate games, compared to 1 watching most it will be caught. You also have to consider anyways that a mod is not on 24/7 so with your train of thought you would need multiple mods for each set of games and to have schedules so that there is someone on at any given time and that is of course not even plausible since they are unpaid

no you just need some good coding and mods would be virtually irrelevant but you know the odds of that happening.

we have enough mods already and they're doing the best they can with every problem. the time zone thingy might be a good idea considering we all dont have the same time zones
