Back in June of '04 I was aka Mod2. As mod 2 I came up with this silly idea. Joe's Drug Shack and I were friends (yes it started with a friend, sorry....) and he was a very outspoken member. He could make a post that was longer than a short novel to read. Nobody really had much of an idea about how others felt about him so I had this idea about how to find out. Back then the rec thread was much different, mostly a place to blog about the recipient. So I made this post and sticked it and found out what people though of Joe. Thus the birth of the thread. I believe at one point both BIATCH and azura helped out in their mod roles with them but for the most part it was me. Back in the day DW was not as big as it is now and you were really either a noob or a vet there wasn't much in between so I basically knew everybody and picking a recipient was not difficult.
Over the years it got more difficult and for a time I did have help, (we have since talked this out so this person knows there are NO HARD FEELINGS) but this person got really militant over who was next. I would say so and so has been here longer and he would say but this is who is next and that was that.
IMO you can come and play 3 rounds and win all 3 but what is your overall contribution to the game? Longevity is key to a thread, without that, the real reason, the founding principal for the rec thread is lost.
Now we have gotten to the point that I don't know all the nominated members and this is where I need the forums help. Once you have nominated a member send me a set of poll questions. I don't care if 15 people send me questions for the same person....first it will show me that - hell this person got 15 votes and needs to be done ASAP and second it saves me from tracking people down, sending multi pm's and a lag time of waiting for the answers. I am depending on our DW community to help me out here.
Yes these threads are mine, and I feel a sense of ownership as I created them and for the most part nurtured them to the state they are now. You can critize me to a fault but in the end, guys it if weren't for my idea a few years ago we wouldn't have them now...
