I test drove 2 bmw's today, looking to get my wife a valentines day gift. the first was a 1999 328i had all the goodies except a cd player. The body was good shape, interior was clean, looked like a few letters was not glowing on the controls led display. 158k miles (this is my hang up) what does the avg miles these cars are good for? The other was 99 328is but it rode bumpy and brakes shook alot when u hit them. I know the cars are worth the money, but i'm not looking to give her a brand new car. Just something nice and dependable that will get her to and from work and still have the classy woman ride. Would the ls300 be a better choice than the 328i series?

edit-
328i was $6900
328is was $5900
ls300 $7500

How many miles on the IS300?

And I don't know about you but I would never buy a car with that many miles on it. A truck maybe, but not a car. No car is realiable after that many miles. They are all just as big of a potential money pit as they are a surprise. I know its just for your girl but I'd look at something else depending on the mileage on the IS300. Even if its a much lesser of a name on the back of the car something that isn't gonna need constant work would be much better, in my opinion
