Best Back-up software?

OK, I woke up Monday morning with the hard drive on my laptop Vital Signs Absent.

Needless to say, I am going to backup my data more often - what would you recommend as far as backup software goes? Is there something that I could connect the external hardrive to a new computer and completely replicate what I had on the dead hd?

Yeah, I've got an ext hd, but I want something that will do it automatically at a set time every day (like 3am)

Well there are a few things you can use..A full Backup/Recovery Program or something along the lines of a Syncing utility.

a) A Backup program will back up either the hard drive or the files and folders you specify on a daily basis.
b) A Syncing program takes a folder you specify and syncs it to another location everytime a change is made to that file.
