Well like alot of people my age Robotech was my first introduction into real Anime..I know there was others before such as Speed Racer and G-Force (battle of the planets) but this cartoon was in a different class. So when I saw this DVD I had to give it a look. I was pleasantly surprised to find out though that this Robotech is not a 'Japanese' anime. It was made by a bunch of fans of the series along with the original distributor. Its been totally revamped for the 21st century as far as the animation goes with CGI 3D modeled mecha and spacecraft along with hand drawn characters. They brought back almost all the original voice over artists too so that the voice of Rick Hunter is still the same voice of Rick Hunter from the original series.
Overall I liked the DVD but it seemed to have lost some of the space opera aspects of the original series. The battle scenes were fantastic and to watch the ships slip into guardian mode in full 3D is a real treat. If your a fan of the original series or just want to see what the story is about I would suggest giving this DVD a look. Also the DVD does not wrap everything up so I'm hoping and it was hinted that this new series may be shopped out as new episodes to a television network (come on Cartoon Network!).
